I feel like many fans of the webtoon were disappointed by this season cos they felt the characters deviated from the webtoon. But I really enjoyed this season more than the previous season because of their friendships, connections and how the characters and friendships echo those from Class 1. The director just explained that he felt so bad for Si Eun after last season that he wanted him to resolve some of his issues/have closure this season. On the surface this season just felt like a lighter show, sometimes more goofy compared to the previous season. But when we look deeper we see that each character (Si Eun, Baku, Juntae, Gotak, Baek Jin) is grappling with a lot of issues which they donโt really talk about. Being teen boys they try to brush them away or escape from them by seeking distractions. But those issues and the tensions they cause move the whole show.

2025-05-09 13:11:58 +0000 UTCLike many others have pointed out, there are similarities with beomseok and baekjin. Both friendships started with genuine care and the best of intentions and ultimately ended up tragically. We see it. Sieun sees it too. And the scene (and this is just how i personally interpreted it) where baku was telling sieun to leave first felt emotional to me. You could see in his eyes just how hesitant he was to leave, almost to the point where it looked like it physically pained him to do so. Bc the last time he let a friend leave (suho/pink pillow) they ended up in a coma. Whereas, this time he's having to do the walking away and knowing how similar baekjin is to beomseok, i can't even begin to imagine how scary that was for him. This is one of those shows that have so many layers and parallels thrown into the mix and it's so impressive how seamlessly they've tied them together. I can't wait for your reactions to the final 2 eps! There's already a bunch of scenes i can think of off the top of my head that i know you'll love!

You forget that the leadership of the Union is made up the top dogs of different schools in the Union. Just cos Baek Jin is the one at the top, itโs not like the other top dogs are weak. Similar to Baek Jin, Seong Je and Baku, Crazy Eyes & Muscles are top dogs of their school. In fact, both of them are from the same school. They wonโt do the actual beating up of people in Union most of the time. โbossesโ donโt need to do that. Their underlings would. Except for Seong Je, cos heโs a psycho that relishes beating people up and fighting. The Union leaders basically put aside their ego of whoโs the top dog amongst them for the shared goal of making loads of money by doing crimes. Thatโs why when Gotak accused Seong Je of just being Baek Jinโs lackey, it affected him a bit, but then he dismissed it by saying he doesnโt mind cos he got to kill guys like Gotak.

But I think he wants Baku in out of a warped sense of friendship - he still considers Baku as his friend, and he thinks he can help him if heโs in the Union (in terms of money and protection, I guess). Then again he pressured Baku to join by going after his friends and dad. Thatโs damn messed up.

Both have their own reasons for acting and thinking the way they do but the end result is the same: destructive, alienating, and self sabotaging. Even though Si Eun can't puzzle out exactly why Baek Jin wants Baku in the union so much, he's gleamed enough or theorized it's related to a warped sense of friendship
