“Sometimes you make the right decision, sometimes you make the decision right.”
- Phil McGraw
Just over here dropping more truth bombs while I entice you with my butt.
Usually people make decisions with a desired outcome in mind, and depending on whether that outcome is achieved determines one's perceived success or failure of that choice. It requires a certain adeptness and adaptability of the mind to convert unforeseen circumstances into events of growth rather than a waste of time and energy.
It's always a choice, a tenacity of spirit, a mental fortitude to shape your destiny rather than relinquish yourself to this idea of fate and victimhood. Mental jiu-jitsu is an important skill to hone in order to master your emotions. Take control over your reality and be proactive, but also go with the flow sometimes. If your strategy is too rigid, someone or something is going to eventually out-maneuver or overpower you.
Stay flexible but strong. Be open to new ideas and information but stay true to your core values and guiding principles. At times you'll be on top, but be prepared to play the bottom game when you have to (or vice versa). As jiu-jitsu players know, neither top or bottom position guarantees success. There are always ways to win in virtually every position as long as you look ahead and don't give up.
Stay calm, breathe, and think. There's always a way out, maybe not right away but life is an endurance game. The older you get, the more opportunities you'll have to gain wisdom and turn failures into successes. Eventually, you won't even see those failures as failures at all. That's the goal anyway.
