Or is it just gone forever haha?🥺 Just thought I'd check! 🙏

2024-09-03 15:26:56 +0000 UTCKokoriko disappeared from the textbooks because it's a "dead end". Meaning, it's a losing strategy. This girl killed it by coming up with refutation. After just one move the position is so lost that Meruem just accepted he's going to be checkmated eventually and resigned. She did not checkmate him with one move. Meruem would've seen mate in 1. Anybody would've seen it. It's the resulting position allowing follow ups which utterly destroy the opponent. I would call it Damiano Defense for Gungi. Damiano Defense is one of the oldest openings in chess. It was already known in like 15th century, and it was already refuted. Refuted by Damiano, so it's kinda strange to have it named after him. Damiano defense is almost the worst defense for black which makes sense on the surface at first glance. One move completely kills it and gives such a huge advantage to white that it's resignable at high level. Of course, no one in their right mind plays it even on intermediate level. Imagine getting a completely losing position on move 5. There is no immediate checkmate, but it's simply matter of time. I guess that's similar to what happens in Kokoriko with the best play.
