Discord Archive - Thoughts?
Added 2024-07-25 09:07:18 +0000 UTCHey everyone, today I will be bringing up something I've been considering for a while: using Discord to distribute Patreon rewards and post announcements.
As the comic continues and the amount of work I produce increases, I've started to notice browsing all of my work can become difficult. Patreon's tag system has been helpful in labeling posts, but it becomes annoying if I forget to tag, or if I tag it incorrectly. The media tab on my Twitter is a great option, but it of course does not have my exclusive content. Google Drive was a good archive too, but could be accessed after cancelling a membership.
Swapping to Discord for Patron reward distribution would be incredibly convenient in quite a few ways:
- Channels can be used for specific comics, allowing for convenient reading and downloading of each page.
- Channels can also be used to organize rewards in other ways (by character or subject)
- Single Download Link for STS to ensure you always get the most recent version.
- Incredible platform for written content such as lore, short-stories and statistics.
But most importantly:
- Discussion of topics that fall outside of Patreon's Community Guidelines would be possible.
Patreon has very clear rules forbidding topics containing 'Consensual-Non-Consent, Bestiality and Incest' among several other fetishes. Many of my favorite creators have been removed for violating these terms and conditions. On Discord, we would have our own rules and moderation, allowing us the freedom to explore those topics in channels separate from Patron reward channels.
The main negative to all of this is that Discord is an inconvenient option for some who may not have Discord and do not intend to get one. In addition, those who do have Discord will have to link it to their Patreon account if they have not already.
So, what do you think? Would requiring Discord to access the content be worth the benefits listed above?

Yes absolutely, I've seen it happen to quite a few as well. Losing contact with all of your patrons with no warning is kind of a nightmare, so I think this would be a great solution.
