05/02/21 DEV_LOG - New update is coming!

Hi! I’m going to start making this dev_logs to share in Patreon all the progress! I’ve been doing it on Discord, but I figured this way the Patreon page doesn't seem so empty.

First of all, NAPP 2.4 is coming! The release will be this Sunday, February 7th.
For this update I’ve been working on some tricky but satisfying blocks:

• Crying obsidian! Based on the classic NAPP obsidian texture, I went for a stylized break on the sides, from where a mysterious purple goo oozes from the cracks. I was happy with the results but I figured animating the color map on that strange goo would be a nice touch. Is very subtle but if you look closely, you can see a flowing animation and color variation on the cracks. I also edited a little bit the current obby so the two of them match perfectly side by side.
• Portal animation! Very tricky one. The final result I managed to get is kind of sloppy, but I dont think in a bad way. The thing with animating in Minecraft is that each frame adds to the atlas texture, which adds more weight to the performance, so I can only use many frames. With a 32x pixel density is not a problem but once you go HD is pretty noticeable. But I think the final result has a lot of personality, and I personally learned to love it. 
• Soul sand! I had previously made a soul sand texture, but I wasn’t quite happy with the result so I put it in the drawer. The new one is based on the old one, but now the sand looks more clean and has more variation, the colors are more accurate and the overall aesthetics match better the vanilla feel.
• Soul soil! This one is made side by side with the soul sand so the edges of both merge seamlessly. It is in the same color palette and if you look it from the distance, you can't guess if it is the vanilla texture or the HD one (which I think is pretty cool)

I will be working on taking some renders on the new blocks as usual!

Also, hi to all the new people! This has been pretty crazy, the FernFox video has gone viral again, and tons of new foes are appearing everywhere, and i couldn't be more happy! So many people in fact that the web went down, which we had to painfully fix over an entire day
