Cloudy days are definitely my favorite days to shoot. Alas, I have to book shoots in advance and nature does not always cooperate!

Cool, yeah I have a 7' x 7' one and westcott 36x42ish..one...and most of the time i am shoot by myself too. I usually use the big as a backdrop to do Peter E Diana type shots.. a lot of your outdoor shots look like you have a scrim, I guess it is just a cloudy day when nature provides you one..

One other thought - I like the play of light, the variability I'm presented with when shooting, and the challenge of making good photographs with the light that is available. It's one of the reasons that I never use any auxiliary lighting. I just like what nature offers.

Such a thing is called a scrim by photographers. Scrims can be very useful for reducing contrast and evening out the light falling on the subject, and are frequently used on outdoor commercial shoots. But to my mind, they are impractical unless you have at least a couple of assistants, which I never do. They need to be fairly big, they need to be properly positioned, they need to be moved when the subject moves to a new location, and they are ungainly to move. There are hand held ones, but they are small and not really suitable when photographing the full figure, and can be useful for portraits, but again, someone has to hold it. So not really practical on an outdoor shoot where it is just a photographer and a model.

Lovely photos, I love your photos of nudes imbedded within nature; especially the close ups. As I wonder about taking similar photographs..wondering on your thoughts of having a big white sheet or something similar to even out the light (even just a little bit) in these situations?
