Vivian and I talked about her posing while we were driving to the location. She prefers edgier, more expressive poses, versus the soft fine art poses you typically see. I explained that I don't really have a preference. I shoot the more edgier stuff and the closer to fine art photos in desert settings. I really prefer to see what the model is comfortable with. I think both types of poses work well. When I direct a model, I'm directing the big picture, how she interacts with the overall landscape. The finest detail I suggest is usually, "lift your head into the sun a little". In this particular photo, I didn't direct her to lift her head. I like the anonymity it conveys by having her facial features completely in the shade. She spent the day having a ball with her edgier poses, and I spent the day having a ball capturing her. As I've said before Vivian prefers the black and white images to the color versions, and I think it lends an edgier feeling to the photo. This one took very little processing.
