The forest has been giving us a lot of trouble, and it looks like the ordeal isn’t over quite yet haha. For the time being, everything I’m about to describe in this post is just a concept, not a finished product. Let’s take a look at how I envision it. What do I want from the exploration system?
An easily readable map with defined paths where the player can:
Encounter random adventures and receive various rewards.
Explore different biomes (each with its own bosses, activities, and unique loot).
And, most importantly, functioning and exciting gameplay.
After finishing up the minigames, we plan to:
Add stamina and additional mechanics.
Implement dodging traps and fighting monsters as (I think) skill tests, not too different from rolling dice like in D&D. We might have some minigames for reactions, attentiveness, and caution.
Add discovering secret locations with treasure that reveal some of the lore of the world, possibly abridged in places.
Implement exploring partners (up to 2).
Each partner will provide a unique bonus (for example: + stamina, + success chance when shooting, additional strength or agility, etc.).
The more often you take a character with you, the stronger their bonus will become.
Special events! Rare dialogues and joint activities will sometimes trigger while exploring with partners (not often, but enough to keep things interesting).
Add more forest-exploration items.
Mushrooms, berries, and other things similarly useful for cooking. Items will vary depending on the biome.
That’s the gist of the system. What are your thoughts on the topic? Any ideas for improving it?
