Poll: Game or Animations?
Added 2022-06-10 14:17:29 +0000 UTCI've found a feature in unity which makes creating long-form animations a hundred times easier. I much prefer long animations rather than a handful of short loops, and I know most of you do too. However, this feature in unity cannot be implemented into the actual game without an extreme overhaul of the code. (The feature I'm using is the Playable Director + timeline asset.)
Anyway, I'm going to be testing this out and making some long animations soon (~1 min), but this brings up a question:
Since the long animations might be incompatible with the overall game, I'd like to know what you guys enjoy more. The game, or the animations? Bear in mind, if I spent less time on the game, I'd have more time to focus on animations.

I mean, longer animations work great for those of us that go in throwing the race :P

The gameplay is no doubt important for this game contextually, but it's never been all that solid before and is mostly just a necessary obstacle over something enjoyed in its own right. I worry that longer animations might mess with the pacing of a game that's already a timed race, so maybe having those be post-run unlocks or maybe full versions of the shorter clips we get in the apps might work out.

2022-06-10 22:40:01 +0000 UTCI enjoy the concept of the game and the words and the story build up to see the animations makes it all together worth it and just having the animations is great but the story and reason behind the animation is what get me.

2022-06-10 16:32:00 +0000 UTCGreat feedback. The two existing story paths are complete actually. All that's left were the modified 3rd and 4th path, and the platforming, to give you a chance to save her, unlocking POV mode. But I now feel that all that stuff just serves to add context for the animations which are the real draw. And in my opinion the context is kind of depraved and inappropriate anyway. Sometimes I'd rather just present them without context. Also, Klapchat is a really good one

2022-06-10 16:12:49 +0000 UTCThank you. I honestly don't think i'm even capable of that level of coding, but Gh0st is gonna look into it, which saves me time. Worst case scenario, we can't implement it, and I'll have to return to the game a bit later to complete it without this feature.

2022-06-10 16:08:13 +0000 UTCWhile i enjoy the game, the animations are the best part i feel. And i think thats the best part to focus on. Eventually retooling the game to fit the longer animations would be best

2022-06-10 15:55:30 +0000 UTCWhile the gameplay does eventually need to be continued, if you need an overhaul of the code to implement what you want, it's probably a better option to overhaul the code before a ton of work is done on a different section.
2022-06-10 14:57:03 +0000 UTCThis is a toughie. I'm personally voting for the animations because, as it stands with the current version, the Klapchat (I hope I'm not stealing that from somewhere) and the animations are the primary functions, and all I've experienced. I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've experienced, and am ok waiting for the full game (which I assume is going to involve platforming, based on the control guide) for the overall stories to be progressed.
