How does shape-changing magic work? (bonus page sketch)

I'm a bit torn on magic in general- I like the idea of magic being a logical force governed by rules, measurable and explainable. On the other hand I like the idea of it just being... magic. With Cummoner I'll kind of try and ride both of those horses at once and here's a little comic explaining some of Vilga's thoughts on the matter of shape-changing magic. Sorry it's very sketchy, but you'll have to wait for the finished version until the end of the Bondage chapter!
