As someone with 10 years of film making experience, I can tell you many things get overlooked for one reason or another, the tiger thing Is them not being very realistic, this is just overreaching, that's fine, writing isn't easy, no need to make excuses for them, mistakes etc are common, few things are perfect

Most stories are made carefully by many people, including authors and editors, to make sure there are no contradictions. So if you feel something is strange, you should first think that you might have missed something and that there is probably a reason for it. Even the part where the soldier blows away the tiger is actually a kind of foreshadowing.
