Another one Im not too happy with, wanted to do a beach scene but as usual I couldnt figure out what to do with the colors because nothing looked good so I just ended up doing 2 versions after messing around for way too long.

The first is the "original" one with more muted colors as her pics usually are, and then I also did a sort of 80s retro version similar to what I did with Ningguang a few years ago. The colors in that version are way better plus I added some extra background elements to really give it that 80s beach mood and I think overall I like that one more since its just more interesting overall (and she also fits with the 80s aesthetic anyway, back when the bush was actually mainstream).

I still wanted to post both versions anyway since the original one does have a stronger focus on her and it makes it easier to appreciate the effort I put into the shading and all that. And its a good example of the struggle I go through with most pics when it comes to deciding on the final look since there is rarely a version thats better in every way and instead you always gain something and lose something. As usual let me know which one is your favorite.

That aside, one thing I wanted to do for this one was the hair in the wind which another thing I rarely ever do and it adds a nice sense of movement to it. I should probably do it more often with outdoors scenes, although its definitely harder to make it look good especially with characters with hair as long as mine. But I think it turned out pretty good here.

Then you have a bunch of the usual elements, with the sheer clothing and such, and I also added a flower on her hair because I thought it looked nice and went well with the theme. I tried a few different colors for the outfit but black was the only thing that looked good even if its probably the reason I couldnt get the colors to look more vibrant. Ill need to experiment more in future pics and try some things to see if I can figure it out.

Last week or two have been pretty terrible though with the summer heat arriving in full force and as someone who doesnt have air conditioning my productivity just fell off a cliff, feeling so tired all day. Fortunately it cooled down a bit the last few days so hopefully it stays like that so I can make up for the lost time.

Beautiful drawings as always.

You mean the chromatic aberration effect? I know what you mean, some artists (and games) go really heavy on it to the point it hurts looking at the pic, so I tried to make it "soft" while still very noticeable because its meant to mimic old cameras of the 80s and VHS tapes and all that stuff. Its part of the charm really as well as the camera UI. But you definitely lose something which is exactly why I wanted to post both. The left one gives her much bigger focus without all the extra elements, I just couldnt figure out how to make it as interesting. Its a constant struggle really, trying to make backgrounds "alive" without them taking the focus from the character. Most of the time it feels like I cant have both.

I like the left a bit more. The earthy colors and a bit more intimate atmosphere. Though can understand that it feels like it is lacking a bit something. The right is also really nice, and I totally see that 80's vibe. Palm trees, beach, city on the background. And the corners having the camera detail is a good extra. One thing that makes the right not as good for me though is the light blue detail that is used like a shadow. For some reason I just generally have issues with that kind of style in any picture that uses such technique. Makes me have difficulty focusing on those parts in the picture. Luckily, you used it only a little so it is not that distracting. Both are really nice. And they do feel as different pictures as the coloring is so seperate from each other. From hair to the skin to the overall atmosphere color. Almost like we got two posts this week instead of one. Thank you for sharing both. :)
