Back from my Tural vacation with another miqo'te commission.
Had a few choices for today but thought this was a perfect pick for a bunch of different reasons, starting with it being a back focused pic which doesnt happen often with me. I also knew right away I wanted to do something with a tribal aesthetic, both because it was fitting for the character and its just something Ive always liked.
Originally, I had Gridania in mind when I did the overall scene/background, but after playing through Dawntrail this might fit in even better with some of the new areas, so that was a nice surprise. Ive always found this kind of setting super cozy like a place Id love to live in, surrounded by nature and such, plus it helps with making the colors more interesting too.
It did take me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do as you can see from how much it changed over time, going from a more open/outdoorsy feel to this. The main problem I was having was that while the open feel was nice, it was also taking too much focus away from her and thats always one of my priorities so I started closing it down which did fix the problem.
I think when it comes to shading and lighting this is probably one of the best Ive done, I feel like it looks so natural with how everything is lit and how it all balances out. The only thing I was worried about was whether I made it too dark, but thats only the case if youre looking at it against a white background really, which you should never do anyway. This is something I need to get over because good lighting really benefits from high contrast which also means dark shadows. I guess Im just always afraid some detail will be lost and such.
I dont have much to say about the character itself, I mean I really like her of course, the kind of simple design I always appreciate and a pleasant combo of colors, plus she has a ponytail so thats an instant win in my book.
One thing I tried here and Ill be working on is making the miqo'te tails a bit fluffier even when they are smaller, wih the little bits of hair standing out here and there. But yeah other than that I just did my usual thing, so not much to say there. Oh and I forgot to say, I love the way the tail is positioned, with the way it weaves in between the feet. Im always trying to find the best ways to pose the tails and this one worked out great.
Pretty sure there will be more of her in the future, at least one with a frontal view and breast focus of course, so Im looking forward to that.
I spent pretty much all of last week in FFXIV as I hadnt played since Endwalker launch, so I had a ton of content to check out plus just going through all the story, but now Im finally getting to a place where I can start dialing it back down a bit and try to balance playing and drawing so Ill get a bunch more stuff done. I had a few pics I started the last week of June that I had to leave unfinished, which always triggers me, lol so Ill work on those now. Next week you can probably expect a new one of my au ra because I havent posted her in a while and I think I have some nice ones coming up.
