Although this happened mostly because of me getting stuck on every drawing I was doing, and thinking "ok, I havent done a portrait in a while so lets do something simple that wont give me too much trouble, then at least Ill have something to post"... I wish, this was just as much of a struggle as anything Ive done lately, lol.
The sketch went smoothly as they usually do (and Ive included it in the post because I really like it), but the coloring process has been a nightmare lately for many reasons, but mostly because of how many options I have and me being so indecisive. This has become a lot worse with doing my own drawings instead of commissions because I have a lot more freedom and while thats mostly good, it has the drawback of... "I can do anything I want, how am I supposed to settle on something?". And the thing with colors is every little thing can impact the pic in such a huge way.
Take the bikini for example, originally it was all white, then I made it purple, then pink, then yellow, then finally this sort of teal color. And that change alone affects everything else, especially where your eyes go first.
Still on the topic of colors, I know I made her hair more red than its supposed to be (its more of a magenta) but again its due to how everything else looks, with the pic having warm tones overall and the beach setting, this hair color makes for such a good contrast with the background and bikini, and its definitely the highlight of the pic to me. So its one of those situations where I took some artistic liberty over staying true to the original look for the sake of the overall pic.
Anyway moving on, I also wanted to give her a very warm smile here. At first she had a more neutral expression similar to Caress or so, which gave her more of a "model" vibe, but I thought this was not only closer to the official art but just a better match for her personality as well.
Not sure how many Trails fans there are around here but I actually didnt care much for Emma during the first Cold Steel game, a bit more in the second mostly due to Celine, lol but then she REALLY grew on me throughout 3 and 4, becoming my "waifu" of choice in the end. And thats why she was the first one I decided to draw (with Sara being a close second, so you can expect to see her at some point too).
Thats it for today. Once again Im frustrated that Im taking so long between posts but yeah as I said above, its been a huge struggle to finish anything lately. Maybe I should start posting sketches in between the main stuff, just for the sake of being a bit more active. Oh well, we will see.

Absolutely beautiful! The colors are perfect for summer. I think the bikini's cool color gives great contrast with her hair.

2021-05-14 08:48:13 +0000 UTCYay finally a trails girl. She looks fluffing amazing, you nailed her look despite the change in hair colour but also gave her that transition, well highlights. Her expression and the way her eyes also smile are really fitting to how she is. Despite her big assets what draws me in first is defo the face... I get a very warm feeling from looking at this. I really like the flowers (along with their colour choice) that work with how soft she looks and with the colour of the bikini. I also like the choice of the eye shadow and lipstick (colour wise). Another thing would be the fabric on her arms which I usually really like to see, adding to her overall look and feel. Then there is also her pose, along with her expression just gives me a feeling of friendliness (and maybe caring too? lol). Overall this really comes so well together with all the colours you chose. Big fan of this, now just looking forward to more trails girls.

I see how you played with matching colours between the bikini and the ornaments: the earrings and the flower hair piece. The tanless nature of her breasts also adds to the rosy colour match for the off-white of the flower. And following this further, a flower is such a great visual metaphor for delicate softness - for both the colour-matched bikini and what it covers. I can't get over her warm smile. And I love the hair colour and style; it frames everything so beautifully with its contrast - it's "fiery" but supports the "delicate" around it. Great job! This work is a treat for the senses.
