Well.. I spent the $1700 bucks. I tried them. I spent several hours calibrating and testing and it just didn’t work out. I’m sending them back. The gloves are called “VRfree” and the demo videos and description just seemed amazing - but in testing I had the following issues:
1. Wireless was not an option. I have gotten quite used to mocapping untethered. It’s pretty much a necessity for me at this point. The cable on the HMD in tethered mode is just dangerous for me and the equipment.
2. Accuracy - the finger bending was perfectly captured - but the position of the hands was terrible and kept teleporting. Not at all good for mocap.
3. Usability - it required a lot of calibration and setup. And.. still had issues.
4. Compatibility- if all of the above hadn’t been a problem - they just don’t work in VAM and was going to require someone write a plug-in - which - I had a couple of developers ready to attempt the task, but due to the issues listed above I never got that far.
I’m not giving up - I’ll be looking for the next best thing - but this one isn’t it unfortunately. Having tracked fingers and eventually face expressions is on my list of things I’d love to see in VaM - but so far we just aren’t there yet.
