I didn’t assume that at all in my reply, in fact I’m pretty sure I was implying the opposite, as I myself am a customer service associate for a corporation that doesn’t give a shit about him. Asset protection leaders in my corporation only become eligible for certain bonuses if they fire a minimum number of associates every year.

2023-10-29 16:46:39 +0000 UTCI wish I saw a bit more acknowledgement from the group (not Austin though, he pretty much acknowledged it) that the people they’re talking to on the phone are likely just small cogs in a big machine with very little power. They’re not CEOs or district managers. Even managers (this guy was probably a supervisor, since he emphasized manager-on-duty, meaning he has even less power than the hotel manager) in a big corporation tend to have pretty limited power. I’m sure most of them would love to say “holy shit, I’m so sorry, let us comp your whole stay” immediately but you have to get that kind of approval obviously from much higher up and obviously from lawyers and security detail with an incident like this to show that you’re not showing the wrong amount of legal liability, because, again, these are small cogs in the machine and one wrong move in an incident like this that could quickly turn into a lawsuit means you’re out the door and fired by corporate/CEO. It’s terrifying to be a small cog in a machine like this. I’m glad Austin knew when to respect that no matter what he did, he wasn’t going to get *immediate* compensation and it sounds like things are for sure going to go his way in the end.

Elevators not free falling is a famous part of engineering school second only to the Tacoma Narrows bridge failure. I hate to be this dude but if an elevator I’m in falls 10 stories (or 2) I’m calling a lawyer. Separate from the personal compensation thing several people need to lose their professional licenses and begin their second careers as pharmaceutical reps and lawn care specialists. You can also be sure that the hotel is going to get a sweet sweet settlement from anyone and everyone involved in installing and commissioning that system. Methinks Marsh should get a cut.
