Terrifying, absolutely terrifying!

Bethany and Ken

I'm glad that the reveal wasn't spoiled for you - the true identify of Selim is one of the things that gets spoiled a lot by people thinking they're clever by telling first time watcher that, "he's their pride and joy," but with so many of them doing it that they're basically going, "DO YOU GET THE REFERENCE!?!?!!" Pride is terrifying - think of what the embodiment of sinful pride would be like and you realize what a monster that would be. You already heard it in this episode, when he is insulted to be compared to Gluttony, despite the fact that they are both homunculi. Now that you've seen his true nature, you're going to see his true personality. What a monster you've been introduced to...

To make things simple. Alchemy is chemistry. The philosopher stone can be used to change any element into whatever you want. (Turn water to gold. Or air to metal) . In chemistry you obviously cant do that but you can change water into ice or water into vapor because it uses the elements it already has (H2O) to change its state matter. Thats also called equivalent exchange. When you make ice, you’re giving up its liquid form to get a solid by lowering its temperature. The stone uses human lives (which is priceless) to bypass the equivalent exchange because you cant measure the value of a soul? Hope my explanation was simple enough to help make more sense of the show lol

Yep, and there it is!! There was a comment I made waaaaaay back in the early parts of this show when Selim was first revealed, and at the time King Bradley was having a “conversation” with him offscreen and I was like “I KNOW WHO PRIDE IS!!” You guys responded with something like, “We want to know, the suspense is killing us!” And this whole time I was anxiously waiting for Pride’s reveal and how shocked you guys would be, and boy this reaction did not disappoint!

I get chills every time Mrs. Bradley says “He’s the Pride of my life.”

Just some guy

Who would've thought the innocent little boy would be Pride the 1st Homunculus, crazy reveal today! Also the Philosopher stone can be used for quite a lot of things (depending on the alchemist who is using it). I talked about how Alchemy has certain rules that have to be obeyed like how it's a science more than magic, but with the Philosopher stone you can break a lot of those rules. It amplifies alchemy to a large scale, it's almost a infinite energy source, and you don't have to follow the laws of equivalent exchange. This show has a big thing about the message of human lives being "priceless" which is why you can't use alchemy to do things like bringing someone back from the dead. But if you have a stone with hundreds or thousands of human lives in it, you can only imagine how powerful that would be. Which is why it can be used to do things like create an artificial person that is very similar to a human (homonculus). Personally with Kimblee, I don't think he really cares which side wins in the end of all this and he is just in it for the freedom to do whatever he wants. I feel like he is also indifferent to whether he survives or dies and just leaves it up to fate. The homonculus tell him what to do, but they got him out of prison and gave him a mission that lines up with his psychopathic nature. He was put in jail for killing people that the government didn't tell him to kill, but I don't think the homonculus would care very much if he did that or whatever else he wants to do as long as the mission is complete (which is just the way he likes it).

Also, while I think the anime did a very good job, I feel they did Kimblee dirty. In the manga, it is very clear he has a moral compass. It's just absolutely distorted and warped compared to what we would consider just and right, and he's very much aware of this fact. Also, I am pretty sure everything I'm saying below here has been explained in one way or another in the show but... potential spoilers I guess? The philosopher’s stone works very simple. The basis of alchemy is Equivalent Exchange. To create something, you need to sacrifice something of equal worth. It has been hammered into us already at this point, but what is the worth of a soul? Ed already came to the conclusion that the answer to that question is: nothing. There is nothing that is of equal value to a soul. That is why it's impossible to revive the dead. Because you can't recreate their soul. (This is all handled when Ed and Pinako dig up the thing the boys transmuted when trying to revive their mom) Now, what is a philosopher's stone made of? Human souls/life. A stone doesn't specifically make your alchemy stronger, but using one simply lets you bypass the Equivalent Exchange by spending some of the souls trapped in the stone. (In Lior when watching the Priest, Ed specifically says he's bypassing the Law of Equivalent Exchange) This is also why Lust died. The stockpile of lives in her stone ran out. (When Gluttony was dying in the tunnel, Envy made a comment about how Gluttony's stone was running out of lives)
