@24:00, I was pretty sure Ken would come out and sing "Who lives, Who dies, Who tells your story?"

😂😂😂

Bethany and Ken

Love the detail and insight in this comment, thank you!

Bethany and Ken

"Elegant" is the perfect adjective for Frieren Beyond Journey's End!

Bethany and Ken

Kraft asking Frieren if she'd heard of him was, I think, him trying to tell how old she was. I suspect he was a very famous hero in his own era, perhaps doing things that even surpass the achievements of Frieren, but it's been so long that nobody knows his name now. Even Frieren, who's been around as long as she has been, has never heard of him. He's so ancient that even other elves have forgotten about him. Just another part of the ongoing narrative in Frieren that time is constantly rolling on. And, sooner or later, it overtakes you. Back in the first epside, Frieren comments to baby-Fern that she was difficult to find in the mountains, and Fern replies that Heiter tells her she's good at going unnoticed and that "it's a good thing". Which suggests that Heiter had been teaching her to suppress her mana already.

Yep, definitely a great cooldown episode from the last few. I just love this show for not only intense action and drama, but genuine life lessons as well. Ofc many anime do this, but Freiren just does so in such an elegant way

While I do agree humor isn't a priority in Frieren, I disagree that it doesn't have much humor. There's been humor since EP 1 til now littered over the eps, Ken probably doesn't find them funny or notice them because they are subtle and the author uses really dead-pan humor and draws the characters with blank realistic expressions. Bethany is correct in that the "praising" is mostly about acknowledgement, to know your life wasn't a complete waste especially for an Elf who has done legendary and righteous deeds and lives far FAR longer than a human if not for eternity. Ken was on the right track when he said he didn't want to go "too philosophical" when the series is all about that, philosophy, idealism, principals, morality etc. If you guys haven't noticed it's been hinted 3x throughout the episode that Kraft is far more older & has far more experience than Frieren and most likely has accomplished way more legendary deeds than her, as he didn't even bat an eye (to the surprise of Fern) when Fern mentioned Frieren helped defeat the Demon King; a world saving feat that is legendary comparable to defeating Thanos, yet Kraft wasn't even impressed at all. This is quite scary and implies he's done something quite similar in the past and might even possibly be stronger than Frieren in a different way. I quote Kraft, "Everyone who has known about my righteous deeds have passed." Correction: No, Frieren did not explicitly state that she wished she expressed how she felt about Himmel when he was alive however she regretted not getting to know him better during his funeral and goes on her journey to revisit old places they visited during their adventure to learn more about humans and to try to connect with them. She is coaxed into visiting HImmel's soul by Eisen hence why they are journeying to Aureole. It is highly probable Heiter DID teach Fern how to suppress her mana somewhat, if you recall EP 1 Fern already had an extremely weak presence and high mana control to the point where even Frieren could barely notice her upon meeting her. Whether she was naturally gifted in this already or a combination of Heiter's teachings is not 100% confirmed, however Heiter taught her some basics already as it was mentioned he did.

if you out live every one i can understand that to keep up your good look on life you can believe in god and that they will remember every thing and they will be happy that you did every thing and make it feel like its still worth continue to help people even if they will die and no one will remember it or even know that you did help the people because the god will not forget and god sees every thing

Going from Full Metal Alchemist to this, I am glad this anime doesn't depict religion as some sort of corruption or evil. Being able to believe is a comfort to people in trying times and I like that Friren's world has a Goddess that is good for the people. Leaving some type of mark in the world even a little is something we are strive for the good and bad of it but it is just a nature to make sure you at least did something in life that impacted your small world.

typically shows like this dont include stuff unless its relevant to the lore so fern likely did learn from the corrupt priest. the idea of legacy is always a interesting topic like death, it has different takes throughout the world but most take the idea from the Romans and trying to immortalize themselves after there death

Knight Spearhead

Yes Fern most likely already knew how to suppress her mana. Frieren mentioned when we meet Fern that she was barely able to detect her.

(30:40) Bucky was telling ya to shut the hell up lol

Fully caught up with the anime and also read the manga up to where the anime ends off over the past few days. Probably gonna keep going for the sake of spoiler immunity lol. Looks like I picked it up just in time for the manga to come back from a 6 month hiatus.
