Bethany and Ken

"Aura, kill yourself" is the coldest anime moment of the last ten years.

Jennifer Sunderland

imo its one of the best anime of the decade so far, looking forward to when season 2 comes around next year

Knight Spearhead

Yo I just caught up to this point (I've just started watching for the first time and currently loving the show). Frieren really hit Aura with the LowTierGod technique that's crazy.

JT

oh, and their lifespan. I missed the obvious lol

huh really

" I imagine any Elf could do something so simple. " I imagine that's probably why the Demon King gave the extermination order. Maybe he had the foresight to sense the danger the Elves' mana suppression talent posed toward a race societally founded on reading and flaunting magic power. Or maybe the Demon King had some kind of oracle or prophecy come to him about 'someone who appears weaker but is actually strong' defeating him, and he defaulted to the elfxtermination. Just guessing though, I haven't made time to go any further into the manga, + Season 2 is coming up yippeeeee!!!

huh really

Frieren the Reddit Troll 😂

😂😂😂 Perfect summary, no notes!

Bethany and Ken

Thank you for the kind words!

Bethany and Ken

Please be "that guy"! We love being corrected and informed as we learn more about the worlds and characters we're journeying with.

Bethany and Ken

100% yes, totally agree! And it is funny how we see examples of this pop up ALL the time.

Bethany and Ken

Ah, that does help, thank you!

Bethany and Ken

I hate to be that guy but when you were talking about Frieren's age of 1,000 years - in comparison to some elves we'll meet (no spoilers obviously) later, Frieren is still considered to be relatively young elf.

Vance Roberts

Frieren the Cyberbully strikes again! “Aura, kill yourself.”

Numbers will overwhelm you eventually especially when you're a mage and put up against melee fighters like warriors. (Mages are stereotypically weak to close combat as portrayed in games and other forms of pop culture/media.) Though Frieren is very powerful especially by human and even demon standards, she is not all powerful and she has weaknesses. FYI I know a lot has not been shown yet to you guys but based on context on what has been shown so far, Frieren herself was not strong enough to defeat Qual at the time much less the Demon King, without the hero's party I doubt she would've succeeded. It was a team effort. The "cowardly" sentiment is the common sense of that world. Akin to how in the past samurai in Japan had a different sense of honor and principals, their values were not the same as those from the West or other parts of the world, I'm sure even in modern day different countries have different values dictated by culture. In Frieren's world, it's a disgrace/dishonor to undermine and degrade magic in that way by playing dirty. It's not honorable and you're not honoring the privilege of being able to use magic. The more you love magic the more you want to honor it and be faithful to it hence why Demons LOVE magic to a fault. Frieren herself confidently loved magic, however once she started "playing dirty" by undergoing the training, her passion waned and became somewhat disillusioned so it indeed affected her mentally. Hope that helps explain somewhat how the values of that world works for you guys! It boarders into morality & idealism tbh.

So as you guys were giving your thoughts on Frieren's technique, it made me think of one of my all-time favorite quotes from Bruce Lee: "Showing off is the fool's idea of glory." As Flamme said in this episode, it's usually the arrogant and foolhardy that go out of their way to let the whole world know how strong they are, but those with quiet confidence will always top them anytime, every time.

Frieren the Humbler

Pyrodragon3993

Yea ive told them about the triology before i hope they get around to it after rebels, probably one of the best star wars books.

Knight Spearhead

Her name is Flamme thats the german word for Fire. Its just said with JP accent.

Knight Spearhead

Badass at the end. She said it so cold. She definitely hates Demons. Possibly the strongest demon slayer in the show.

Yoshitsune92

I think you totally missed some of what Flana was saying Demonds don't have society like our it is might is right if you imagen like lions if you show your strength you will die so they can't hide it so not like rich really the would not survive if the thought of as weak

Dan Clark

Absolutely. It’s a solid strategy, but one who’s prideful can’t understand. Vegeta was the same way until later on. In the beginning he was all FEEL MY ENERGY YOU CANT HOPE TO MATCH IT! But he later adopted the earthlings’ way of fighting smarter after meeting goku

victoria t

FREIREN THE GOAAAAATTTTT And that was Flamme’s plan, she told Frieren to live in obscurity before defeating the demon king, because that was when she would make a name for herself. By hiding away and living in obscurity, the demons would underestimate her by not knowing her true age. By living away in the woods for 1000 years and not on the front lines, Frieren was able to develop her mana and ultimately become a secret weapon because nobody knew her true strength. If she started demon hunting earlier on, she wouldn’t have had as deep mana reserves as she does now and she would have been known to the demons and not been a hidden threat. Flamme really was so smart in her strategy with Frieren

Naruto episode 1 next pleaseeeee😭😭

James

Frieren's little duel with Aura is one of my favorite anime moment's in general. Just the way Frieren ends it all with her reveal and final lines, just pumps me up every time! On a complete side note, just because Thrawn was brought up, and maybe not the best place since this isn't a Star Wars video lol. But, Thrawn is one of my favorite Star Wars characters with this modern iteration of him. If you're interested in learning more about him, I highly recommend the Thrawn Ascendency book trilogy. It goes over more of his backstory before the Empire, and to my knowledge, it is his current canon story. The book trilogy is also available on audible.

Akio Senpai

That walk off was perfection itself.

CMDRZero

LOVE IT, great reaction!

JsonKim

If you recall in Later Dragon ball goku and the others liked to conceal there true power, the concelment of mana in frieren works pretty much the same way

Knight Spearhead

Fern and Stark: fighting very hard and having to concentrate on keeping themselves alive. Winning through cleverness and determination. Freiren: “nice try dipshit, KILL YOURSELF”
