2025-08-03 17:04:57 +0000 UTCYep, General Blue is gay, but since Dragon Ball was being dubbed around the early 2000s, it was pretty taboo to include any gay reference in media back then, hence the censorship (in addition to what JT said above). And yep, Bulma was definitely thirsty back in these days, and I appreciate Toriyama for referencing this behavior with Zarbon back in DBZ (she just gushed over Zarbon, didn’t do anything sexual towards him) and with Zamasu back in DB Super. If there’s anything Bulma is good at aside from her wits, it’s her ability to tease lol

2025-07-31 19:35:41 +0000 UTCYa’ll are probably gonna be getting a lot of comments about this, but instead of Bulma just calling Blue a “prude” as she does here (40:33) in the dub, the sub and manga originally had her straight up say that Blue “must be gay”. To which Krillin follows up with “I didn’t know there were gay bad guys”. And instead of trying to pretend she’s a “sumo wrestler” after Krillin gets beat up (45:47), Bulma originally says “What if I was to tell ya… that I’m really a man?” (to try and appeal to what she thinks is more to Blue’s liking). Blue answers by saying “I’d say you were a freak of nature!” So yeah, you can probably imagine why this dialogue was changed in the dub. Now, I’m not just bringing all this up just to point out how ya couldn’t get away with this nowadays (although yes that’s part of it). There’s a scene in a later episode exclusive to the anime where Blue’s “type” is of focus and, well… we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.

2025-07-31 19:03:30 +0000 UTCYo Toei made it so much harder to get to the treasure lol. The treasure room was just an empty room with a single treasure chest in the manga. No trick chests and a random ass guard statue of a Hindu god lmao. Though I will say the idea of these pirates using the power of robots and Hinduism to protect their treasure amuses me.
