Final Fantasy 16 Part 14 - Side Questin'

Doing a bunch of Side Quests. We focused on the ones with plus signs and treasure chests. Only ones with plus signs we didn't get to had to deal with tracking down some monsters. Though there are some random marks that we fight in this and stumbled upon.

Ooooo, one like Devil May Cry sounds fun! We honestly haven't used Barnabas' skills much as we found others before fighting him that we like so much, but we may need to revisit his.

Bethany and Ken

Have u guys tried out any of Barnabas' skills? One of them when maxed out looks a little like Vergils Judgment Cut from devil may cry!

Mosh Mia

You are right our progress has slowed but we welcome you adding to it!

Bethany and Ken

😂

Bethany and Ken

If you ever do try it let us know how it tastes and if it really is like soft shell crab.

Bethany and Ken

Haha, and this was when he was on the mend. We had about 5 days without any filming while he was at his sickest.

Bethany and Ken

Definitely worth it!

BTW I'd like to thank you two for taking my advice to check the side quests out. I know they can be a real chore gameplay wise so I was a bit afraid ya weren't gonna be feeling them. Seems like ya found the story/character payoffs to be worth the time tho, so I guess it worked out.

So... looks like the DLC's gonna be coming up next time. I'm probably coming in late by saying this, but I suggest completing Echoes of the Fallen before The Rising Tide. Not only because that was the order in which they released, but The Rising Tide is the much bigger story focused expansion of the two (if the bigger price tag didn't key you in to that). Already got my notes for the two of 'em ready. Can't believe we're almost at the end already. Still remember my surprise from the day ya'll just posted part 1 here on Patreon on a random ass Wednesday lol.

JT

Ken this is the first time I'm hearing your sick voice in a recording oh my god 😆. It's like someone else came in and voiced you over lol.

5:21:48 Seeing this quest again had me curious about whether our world happened to have any dishes that use scorpions, and it turns out they exist. Some parts of China and Thailand serve soups that cook scorpion with herbs that hold medicinal properties. There are also some places in Asia that serve grilled/fried scorpions on a stick. Now you two might think less of me for this, but I deadass wanna try one of these things lmao. I'm half Chinese and my father has a long career of working for Asian restaurants, so I've had many an opportunity to taste things a lot of western people would find weird.😂 The Internet's telling me they taste like soft shell crab, and I'm all about that shit hahahaha! On a slightly more serious note, we may consider people like Yvan weird, and for sound reason. But I'd argue that people like him are incredibly important to the cooking we have today. Just think that there had to have been some weirdo(s) at some point in history that decided "hey, let me grind up this unknown plant and sprinkle it onto my food". Now we got seasonings.

4:08:47 That whole "drinking water to help ya sober up" advice is a myth BTW. Ain't no way to speed up the way your liver processes alcohol. The only thing you're doing by telling a drunk to drink water is creating a tipsy person that's gonna have to piss real bad.

3:51:16 When I had first completed this mission, I did feel a slight amount of disappointment. A staple of Final Fantasy and several other classic JRPG series is the obtaining of some sort of means of air travel to help you explore more the world (in FF's case that means is usually an airship). With how much Mid's quests built up the creation of an airship and the fact that other FF games have their respective Cid grant access to the airship, I figured that this mission would've ended in the Enterprise being able to fly to Origin. To instead be rewarded with just the model airship was a rather deflating at the time. But in hindsight, it makes sense why no functioning airship was included in this game. The way FF16's world map works has no need for one, and having a big story-significant development like that would've never been hidden behind side quests. That and the ending called for... well... an alternative means of flight for things to play out the way they do. Edit (4:59:52): The idea ya proposed here ain't a bad one, but I still can't come up with any way to mesh Mid's involvement with the approach to Origin with the actual one used in the story in anyway that doesn't feel awkward.

Due to the stuff you two have been dealing with recently, I feel it's a bit insensitive to ask ya for feedback on the VGM playlists this time. So rather than asking for notes, I just wanted to let ya know that I've been thinking about adding more tracks w/ vocals in them. If that's an issue, do let me know.

1:47:09 Congrats on beating Svarog. He's the strongest notorious mark there is. A while back I had told ya that there were only two enemies in this game that killed during my first run (of the base game). Svarog here was the second. Challenged him as soon as his mark was available. Turns out the game let's you fight him before Clive's XP level is fit to face him, so I ended up getting two shotted. Came back around this point in the game and finished him off in one try. Would've liked to try doing a lot of these late game bosses on Final Fantasy mode, but I've decided to call my third run off prematurely. Got too much going on and too many other games to get to.

BTW I’ve been monitoring DK Bananza’s performance on Metacritic this morning and it’s looking like a TGA GOTY contender (which I don’t think should come as a surprise). Currently sitting at a score of 91 with 83 critic reviews. Thus, I’ll update my predictions as to what the nominees are gonna look like this year: - Clair Obscur Expedition 33 (score of 93 w/ 84 reviews) - Blue Prince (score of 92 w/ 54 reviews) - Split Fiction (score of 91 w/ 110 reviews) - Donkey Kong Bananza (score of 91 w/ 83 reviews) -Death Stranding 2 (score of 89 w/ 136 reviews) - Monster Hunter Wilds (score of 88 w/ 107 reviews) While Blue Prince is the second highest in terms of score, I think the smaller number of reviews and its niche mechanics put it as the least likely to win this year (which isn’t supposed to be a knock, just saying). Therefore, I’d say that Clair Obscur and Split Fiction are the two most likely to get the award. I think that Clair Obscur still remains as the most likely candidate due to its score and the overwhelming praise it’s been getting from online creators, gamers, and prominent figures in the industry. Still, ya should never rule anything out. We could see a repeat of what happened in the 2018 Game Awards. Red Dead Redemption 2 was at a score of 97 w/ 99 reviews while God of War was at a 94 w/ 118 reviews. Because of this difference in recognition, RDR 2 ended up winning pretty much every award except GOTY.

*Had these pre written for last Wednesday, so I'll just drop it now. Some of the wording might be outdated* WWW Suggestions In celebration for DK Bananza’s release tomorrow, I’ve put together a load of DK-related content for my suggestions this week. DK Country Returns HD Trailers: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIVSPdx0Q6RjGQyO-waR5w9T&si=2B_xrygAWmcBuS29 DK Country Tropical Freeze: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIXBTiDgt-T8rIaIiB3Qnz8A&si=IC_L8eqBpD22WGmT I’d be rather surprised you two haven’t checked these out yet since you’ve mentioned before that ya had history playing the first DK Country on SNES together. But in case ya haven’t, these two games would be rather familiar to ya since they have a lot of similarities to DKC 1. The Most Insane DK Game Ever Made by SkoottieTV: https://youtu.be/nlJ9vQGxkyA?si=2A6dGwORoAVa9xGi This is an overview/retrospective of DK Jungle Beat, easily the most unique entry out of any 2D platformer DK game. Figured that I’d mention this one because I find that it just deserves more attention lol. It’s the only DK game (besides Bananza, interestingly enough) that rated E10+ because of the over-the-top beatdowns that DK lays down on literally every enemy. Alex Henderson Animation’s DKC Music Videos Curse of the Crystal Coconut: https://youtu.be/k5-X58Tw6RQ?si=4-XNTqDwi2CbXPZ9 Return to Krocodile Isle: https://youtu.be/1eggzBAzCZg?si=ASs0Gpo0SK4YPDXd Some poor bastard over on the YT side of the DND community had been keeping a day count for every time he requested ya to watch these. Don’t know if he’s still going but I’m pretty sure he went past 150 days lol. Guess now’s as good a time as any to try backing him up bc I also think these animations are really good.

Ay it's here. Gonna use this as background noise while I work today.
