"They were able to put out a game that still looks good, but not "so good" that it starts taking away resources needed to make interesting gameplay." - well said!

2:09:18 Well you wouldn't just be putting more work on the programmers, but also more work in the animators (and potentially the sound designers too if they wanted to go that far). Not only that, but you'd also be adding more assets that would further inflate the game's file size and demand more memory during development. Ya say that little visual details like this are something that you hope games should try to do more in the future, but I can't say I agree. The industry has already been having enough problems due to insane production value that these games are trying to reach. Development costs have gotten so high that a single flop can sink an entire studio, so devs have little room to justify experimenting with innovative/unusual ideas because doing so typically results in low sales. Layoffs and game cancelations have been happening left and right bc publishers are trying to mediate the cost of the resources needed to make and promote these big ass blockbuster type games that try to make themselves look like a movie. I would say that Sandfall found the perfect middle ground when it comes to production value. They were able to put out a game that still looks good, but not "so good" that it starts taking away resources needed to make interesting gameplay.

1:46:10 Just to let ya know, there is actually a toggle in the options menu that'll make it so that any changes to a character's outfit will switch to the default clothes in FMV cutscenes. It's always a good rule of thumb to take a close look at every game's options menu before getting things started. Helps ya spot things like this before they become an issue.

1:33:29 Aw dammit, ya missed a pretty good pictos here. If ya go up to the casino door and tell the Gestral gambler ya like gambling, you can get the "Roulette" picto. Having it equipped will cause each of your attacks to have a 50% chance of either dealing half normal damage or double the normal damage. I always have it equipped on characters who have skills with multiple strikes (like Maelle) since that increases the chances of getting that double damage. Ya can always come back and grab the picto later if you're interested. There's actually a reason ya might want to come back to the Gestral Village later on that I'll mention when the time is right.

1:21:39 Those weapons have hands because they're the arms of dead gestrals. Ya didn't seem to catch it but some of the Sakapatates ya fought earlier were using the corpses of their dead partners as melee weapons. Since gestrals are able to be revived and they're culture is so centered around combat, this seems to be their way of honoring their dead. I guess the arms were just limbs gestrals dying in combat.

1:09:44 YES! I was so ready for ya'll to get knocked the hell out! πŸ˜‚ There's a few different ways you can challenge Golgra, with each encounter having various degrees of difficulty. Challenging her in her hut like you did right here is easily the most difficult of the encounters, one that's more challenging than the final boss. Not even worth trying till you're about level 50. If you win, she'll reward you with a super strong weapon for whichever party member you challenged her with. Ya'll playing this game is giving me the urge to hop back in to try doing all the optional bosses I didn't win against. The Golgra encounter here being one of them πŸ˜….

13:13 Ngl, a little disappointed that you weren't as freaked out by these things as I thought you were gonna be lol. As someone who religiously searches every nook and cranny in any game that'll let me, I managed to find and defeat a couple of mimes that were in the earlier areas you explored in part 1. They always reward you with wardrobe options, so that's fun. Their fairly challenging fights and battle music just make them a delight for me. Also, can I take this moment to mention how much I love how unapologetically French this game is?

JT

4:00 This enemy right here is a "Petank". They act as both a sort of mini boss and puzzle. To catch them, ya gotta chase them onto a nearby altar that'll be glowing the same color as the Petank. Once the Petank is on the altar, you must defeat it within a certain number of turns or else it'll flee the battle. Killing a Petank will reward you with a good amount of chroma catalysts, recoats, and colour of luminaries, so it's also worth taking a try at beating them. Mind you, despite their small stature, they are rather difficult to kill.
