Since you have seen a lot of dragon ball, what are both of your top 5 transformation in dragon ball ? (including villain transformation if you want to include them in your list). Interested to see if both of your top 5 transformation are very similar or completely different.

Zaid

What really held it down was its bad characters with no stand out personality or real depth to them.

Zaheer Codon

just FYI for yall, if yall do decide to watch that video, skip the beginning bc yall havent finished og db yet. that's all :)

Shawn Waldrop

Unrelated but so excited for you guys to watch Frieren I finished it last month after starting it because of it winning the poll and it’s already in my Top 10 shows ever so can’t wait for next Friday!!!

This last episode was amazing to say the least and that Kamehameha which I’m calling the Maximum Kamehameha is by far the most gorgeous one this series has ever shown so far big props to the entire animation team honestly for this entire show and I really hope this sends a message to not rush Super again when that comes back. Anyways I don’t think it’s really fair to compare this to the other DB series considering this is only 20 episodes while the others are at least 60+ episodes with multiple arcs in them. Besides that I do think they really fumbled by putting all their cards in the last 4 episodes because while I really enjoyed Episodes 1,6,8, and 12 I can’t really say I got the same amount of enjoyment watching this weekly compared to Super. Also the fact that they really didn’t give any lore reasoning to why SSJ4 never shows up again since this takes place before Battle of Gods is kinda dumb too since what was stopping Goku from trying this form against Beerus šŸ˜…, and the show didn’t really explore the Demon World and its people as much as I’d have liked it too. Overall though I still quite liked this series for what it was as a 40th Anniversary Project and if it was truly Toriyama’s last project then I’m quite satisfied.

Man that was definitely a finale for sure! Honestly I agree with y'all in every way, it seemed like Daima's ending was a bit rushed, and there were quite a bit of plotholes in the series overall. I said before that this most likely had to do with Toriyama's passing, and trying to condense a massive story into a 20-part series, rather than letting the story be itself, ending whenever it was ready to just like Super did (Super was meant to be only 100 episodes when they first announced the series 10 years ago). Aside from that, my favorite character in the series was Glorio, and majority of that was just vibes alone. He reminded me of Hit in a way, just stoic and calm in nearly every situation. I'm so glad you guys were able to react to Daima, and if or when the time comes for you guys to react to GT, I'll definitely be looking forward to that. P.S. I've never seen Freiren before, so it'll be my first time watching alongside you guys, and I don't know what to expect, but it'll definitely be another fun journey for sure

Naharei was the supreme kais name lol. Overall i enjoyed the series

Animation is fire but god did this suck. Don't know if Toriyama just went to an Opium den before writing this. Or if other problems with scheduling and project management got in the way. Regardless the drop in writing quality is undeniable, whether you like the show is a different matter. It is possible to like things that are objectively bad, lots of horror movies and other forms of media thrive because of this. I'm sure there are some Dragon Ball Evolution stans out there somewhere to.

REDE

Doesn't matter how many times I've watched the DB series, I never get tired of watching a good Kamehameha getting fired, there is actually a YT video that compiled every Kamehameha scene in the franchise (pre Daima): https://youtu.be/HO_c4XqkXuY?si=THdrAnks5qUCBNOX, for your watching pleasure if you have 3+ hours to spare šŸ˜‚

Cynergy when Arinsu comes in: (8:22)

JT

I havent watched the show either, itll be weird to react to non DB content for this channel but Im looking forward to it.

Cynergy

Top 5 characters: Arinsu Duu Kuu Nahare Goku I agree with you both that they should have featured the other Z characters in this series, especially Gohan who didnt make any appearance except in a flashback.

Cynergy

*Sniffle* its always sad when a DB series ends. I had fun with this series, I would hope that if Super returns it would be animated as beautifully as Daima was. I enjoyed the last part of the Goku vs Gomah fight in this episode because it was straight up fighting with NO character commentary šŸŽ‰ I do wonder if any of the Daima elements will be included in DBS, I guess we shall see. In terms of where this series stands on my DB scale, I would rank it as such: DBZ > Daima > OGDB > DBS/DBGT.

Cynergy

I’ll be honest, the first 8 minutes of this episode is some of my favorite Dragon Ball, maybe since the original run. And that Kamehameha is top 5 for me easily, the way the music builds right before the cutaway, is perfect. It’s kinda funny, the animation in this episode almost makes the last 3 look small.

Shadowpunch13

Wouldve been great if piccolo became demon king like he use to want

Knight Spearhead

If I'm not wrong there are 3 years in between this and battle of gods, atleast timeline wise. So they could do another project explaining how super and Diama could fit together, but probably not. I know a lot of people want the series to go further past end of Z, but honestly even with how much i love dragon ball, I dont want it to become the Simpsons of anime and just keep going. I'd like to keep end of Z as the ending, since it is Toriyama's ending.

So as you can probably tell, this ending leaves a number of inconsistencies when you try to put it in the same timeline as Daima. Nahare and Kibito remain unfused, SS4 is never acknowledged, and the Demon Realm Dragon Balls are claimed to be the first set when DBS said that the Super Dragon Balls were the first. There may be others that are just not occurring to me at the moment. This leaves Daima in a rather curious place. It's difficult to say that it fits into the same timeline as DBS, but you also couldn't rule out the possibility of future writers either just throwing in some half-assed lines to try and make it work, or just tying them together with no explanation. Can't say I can dismiss the possibilities given how past DB series treated the continuity between each other. Frankly, I'd much prefer that they just keep Daima as its own separate thing, as well as any other future DB works. It prevents any issues of being "required" to try and conform to the story events of franchise that was already pretty iffy with continuity, and it allows future DB writers to draw a fine line between their work and Toriyama's. It would also help resolve an issue that DBS and Daima had (that I've kept on the hush about to not spoil the fun for you two), and that is that because they're supposed to take place before the end of DBZ, it's hard to create any believable stakes in the story. It's easy to dissociate DBS and Daima from the original story "now", but when these two shows were airing and most people were watching under the assumption that they were part of the same canon, ya didn't have any sensible reason to think the cast wasn't gonna make it out okay.

JT

Yo I would be so down to watch a DB Evolution reaction šŸ˜†. It would be so awful and so funny.

JT

Even with the inconsistencies of Diama, most likely because production started before the script had been complete, and Akira Toriyama's death. I still really loved Diama, and I can't help but start to cry whenever I hear the main theme. Dragon Ball as a series means a lot to me, and I don't know if I would have ever become an anime fan without it. It's basically been a part of my entire life since DBZ Kai released when I was 6, and has always just been there. While there's still og Dragon Ball, maybe GT, and maybe maybe evolution if you ever wanna torture yourselves. It's been fun going through this franchise again through your eyes. Rest in peace Akira Toriyama.

As for what I think about Daima as a whole? I enjoyed it. It’s not perfect. Far from it. Characters like Degesu, Arinsu, and Piccolo could’ve been given more to do, the pacing needed some workshopping, and the ā€œplane gets destroyedā€ moments were a few too many. That being said, I still don’t view Daima as ā€œhorribleā€ or ā€œa complete waste of timeā€. I’ve read just about everything of Toriyama’s work (that have been translated, at least). When we started getting more of Daima’s tone and premise in the first few episodes, I started getting reminded of manga such as Sand Land and COWA! So, I shifted my expectation of Daima to be closer to those works, in that would end up being a simple adventure story with simple yet endearing characters that didn’t take itself too seriously. The inclusion of lore in Daima also added to my enjoyment. While some of these characters and story events may not be considered ā€œcanonā€ down the line, I still think the lore revelation introduced Daima could still be considered as true (even they aren’t brought up directly).

JT

As I said way back on the reaction a few months ago, this finale initially left me with mixed feelings, and that was largely because I was watching it under the assumption that the inconsistencies with DBS would be resolved. Now, the subject of where Daima lands in the franchise’s canon is a subject of high contention, so I’ll discuss it in a separate comment later. What I’ll do here is give my thoughts on Daima’s ending with the renewed perspective of it not having to be connected to DBS. On the whole, I think that this ending is just ok. Could’ve been better, but not quite so bad that I’d say it ruins the whole series for me. What I Liked: + The fight between SS4 Goku and Gomah was cool, and that last Kamehameha is one of the most spectacular that the franchise has ever seen. + As a Kuu believer since day one, ya’ll have no idea how happy I was when he got the W. Such a Toriyama move to have him finish things by hitting Gomah with a book too lol. I’m proud of my green idiot genius. + Having Toriyama’s final work end on a stupid bait and switch gag is the most Toriyama thing to ever Toriyama. I’m about it lmao. Daima ain’t the first time he did such a thing. What I Disliked: - Piccolo’s failure to finish Gomah is one of the biggest fumbles he’s ever had. While I liked that Kuu got the win, I didn’t like that it had to come so hard at Piccolo’s expense. One could really question why Piccolo was brought into Daima’s main cast, because he really didn’t end up doing a whole lot. My guess is that Toriyama just felt like bringing him along because Piccolo was one of his favorite characters but couldn’t come up with anything meaningful for him to do. Weird reasoning, I know, but I can’t think of any other explanation. - The complete dismissal of the Join Bugs was a massive disappointment. People we’re expecting that we’d get a fusion of Goku and Vegeta to make a revised SS4 Gogeta or a fusion with the Majin Bros. Tbh I just thought they were gonna use it to fuse together Nahare and Kibito again (which obviously didn’t happen). Very weird to tease such a thing just to have no payoff for it. - The explanation for Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 just being ā€œthat he trained for itā€ was underwhelming and somewhat hard for me to buy. Look, I’m all for Goku reaching new heights by working hard and pushing his limits (bc that’s the core theme of Dragon Ball). But given how different the form’s design is from everything else, I just find it to be rather lame. Really dampened the impact that the form had for me in eps 18 and 19. If I were asked to come up with something ā€œbetterā€ I would’ve had Neva’s power up spell be the reason. However, I would make it so that SS4 could only be triggered by an amplified version of Neva’s boost. One that would require Goku to have immense control over his ki and body, or else the magic would kill him. Probably still not the ā€œbestā€ proposal, but at least it’s not as dry as we what we ended up getting.

I'M HERE.

So, looks like Frieren’s taking this time slot for the next few months, eh? Haven’t seen it yet, and I like to watch things myself before going to any reaction vids, so I guess ya’ll will be getting a break from me on Fridays for a bit lol.
