Thanks for the recommendation!

Oh yeah, just to clarify, Springtrap's power up is a result of him absorbing a portal anomaly. It's explained by Charlotte right around here (7:10) that should a character absorb one of these anomalies, they'll be able to realize "any conceivable ability from their domain". While it happened to be Springtrap this time around, I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of our main crew ends up doing the same in a future episode.

This may just be headcannon but I think springtrap got the power up because the bosses are all representing big game companies (I think) and unlike the other characters fmaf started indie but then went big corpo

I’m in the same boat as you guys, in that I know nothing about most of these characters, with the exception of FNAF and Dead Cells (Beheaded. BTW he has a crossover with Castlevania titled “Return to Castlevania”). I’m aware these characters exist but don’t really know much about them. But with what very little I know of Frisk, they come from a world where their combat seems to be above anything in FNAF, so it’s not surprising to see Frisk wiping his butt with normal Springtrap. While FNAF is a scary ass world, with corpses and spirits hunting the protagonist, most animatronics from FNAF aren’t that much stronger than the average ones we have irl. Enough to maybe overpower an average human, but nothing special to someone who fights weird creatures that are strong enough to destroy buildings and timelines.

You guys should dive more into Hollow Knight lore! It's a really fascinating world about the kingdom of bugs. One of my favorite metroidvanias.

That’s it for the main characters that debuted this episode, but I also wanted to go over some of the cameos/minor characters that you two may be unfamiliar with. (6:40) Choo Choo Charles (from Choo Choo Charles): An open world horror game with first person shooter segments. It revolves around you weaponizing and upgrading an old train to fight Choo Choo Charles, the big train monster you see here. Can’t say I care for it. Pretty burned out on the whole mascot horror gimmick that a lot of indie games follow these days, but hey, maybe you two may want to see more of it. Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIV8QQ6uRKyvBUdzP2WBRG01&si=xVVeIF2L8bG5ndAs (6:44) Eye of Cthulhu (from Terraria): Terraria’s a massively popular open world sandbox game with survival game elements and online co-op. The Eye of Cthulu here happens to be one of its bosses. Never really got into Terraria myself or anything from the large pool of content about it over on YT. I’ll just leave you with the playlist of trailers that the dev studio (Re-Logic) left on their channel. Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlAfl1E4ndXt9cSz-xTbDYRwMVBniuuDr&si=O86d-Y4Fqc0wV3ii (6:48) Henry Stickmin (from Henry Stickmin): A comedic point and click adventure game series that has a lot of referential, slapstick, and absurdist humor. Not much else to say bc that’s really all they are. Not too many trailers for it, but I enjoyed them, so I thought I might as well give you the name. (19:53) The Goose (from Untitled Goose Game): Yes, that’s the real title. It’s a cozy little puzzle-adventure game where you play as a goose, and go through a small town ruining everyone’s day by pulling all sorts of annoying shit. It’s delightful. Definitely the game I could recommend you two to actually play out of this second set. Not too hard, not too long, and it has couch co-op. Y'know, it's just occurring to me. Between the different series crossing over with each other and the "trophyfication" of fighters when they're defeated, this show is damn near an indie game edition of Subspace Emissary.

JT

The inclusion of Niko in this episode as part of the main cast really intrigues me, because it suggests that characters from indie games that don't originate from action-oriented indie games can potentially make their way into the show. Plenty of possibilities going forward.

Here with some more character/game overview primers. A fair chunk of the indies that debuted in this episode are those of which I’ve had on the backlog for a while, so apologies if these don’t seem as descriptive as last time. Also decided to pair them with the playlists I’ve made for each respective game, so things are a bit more organized. The Drifter (from Hyper Light Drifter): Hyper Light Drifter is an action RPG that has been described by its lead developer as being a combination of Zelda A Link to the Past and Diablo. The Drifter is a character who possesses technology long forgotten by his world’s inhabitants and suffers from an unspecified illness. Can’t say much more on him or the game since I haven’t played it myself. Threw in some trailers for the game’s sequel, Hyper Light Breaker, since there weren’t too many for HL Drifter on its own. Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIXHOXFKqxAcIFlGD3MbYk1p&si=UAa8bBvZTV_UJqu1 The Beheaded (from Dead Cells): Dead Cells is a roguelike-Metroidvania where you play as an amorphous creature simply known as the The Prisoner (or The Beheaded) on a diseased island. While the Beheaded’s head is immortal, the bodies he possesses are not, so he must take over the corpse of another prisoner from the island’s prison each time he dies. Using these abilities, the player’s goal is to slay the island’s king. Haven’t played Dead Cells yet either, so I can’t say much else. Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIXRuXTyhMqmYM5wVAcwPOWd&si=YfADuqixLdV2YLCQ Niko (from OneShot): OneShot is puzzle/adventure game with some of the most metafictional story elements I’ve ever witnessed. The story focuses on Niko, a child who is suddenly whisked away from their home and dropped into a mysterious world that is slowly dying due to the disappearance of its sun. Upon being placed into this new world, Niko discovers the world’s sun (the lightbulb they carry) and is tasked with restoring the sun to its proper place. The claim that Niko makes of speaking to God is true, in that they speak directly to the player (who serves as the God of OneShot's world) during his journey. I refuse to say much more than that because I don’t want to spoil anything. OneShot is one of the few games in Indie Cross that I have no problem recommending to you two since its largely defined by its storytelling and characters rather than challenging mechanics or gameplay. It's rather short too. IMO this game really demonstrates that you don’t need cinema-like graphics or presentation to create an emotionally intriguing story. There aren’t many trailers for OneShot, but I managed to compile together a few. All I can say is to please give it a chance. Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIUguZQqyoZ8LLo208LgRR8D&si=iv5SIoqAFGR8sf_t V1 (from Ultrakill): Been waiting for Ultrakill to come out of early access, but the constant praise that it's been getting has made that rather difficult for me lol. It’s a first-person shooter that’s heavily inspired by the classics that define the genre, such as DOOM. I think Maxor’s Ultrakill video may have been on a WWW poll a while back, and I do think that could be a good introduction.
