This is helpful context for our viewing. Won't stop us from asking questions but that's because the questions are indicative of what has spoken to us throughout the episode. It's okay if they aren't answered, but we'll still probably ask. 😊

So some context with that last episode and the fusion of Kyurem and Reshiram. In the myths of Unova (Gen 5) there was one great Dragon that worked with two brothers to unite the warring factions in the land. However the brother began to fight over their philosophies and what was more important. The older brother believed the Truth to be most important, while the younger brother believed in the importance of Ideals. This rift between the brothers caused the single Dragon to become 2 separate beings. Reshiram, the embodiment of Truth and using fire, while Zekrom became the embodiment of Ideals, using Lightning. For a time, neither dragon could defeat the other, being matched equally in strength. As such the brothers agreed that there was no correct side. Over time, however, the fighting resumed, and each dragon was so badly damaged that they withdrew into a hibernation state into the Light and Dark Stones respectively. Kyurem is the final part of this trio, and there exists two beliefs on it’s origin. One believing it to be of extraterrestrial origins, arriving to the land in an icy meteor and would lead people and Pokemon to its lair to devour them. However, another belief is that Kyurem is the left over parts of the original, single Dragon. In lacking Truths or Ideals, it instead is only able to retrieve either by absorbing Reshiram or Zekrom. Essentially forcing an assimilation into itself. I think that the general consensus is that the second origin is the correct one for Kyurem, as the first one is given in the context of being the local legend of the town near where Kyurem is located in the original Black and White games.

You are so good at explaining things to newcomers

Just a reminder, if you see a character but it's just a silhouette and you can't see their face, that would be one of the protagonists you play as.

There's something I forgot to mention as to why this is such a big deal to players of the games. Remember that most of the Pokemon games are on handheld consoles. So the Gameboy and DS that you could take anywhere and play on the go. So all the artwork in the games are pixels. Think like old arcade games like Pac-man, Dig-Dug, etc. And there was no voice acting either, so it was all just text you had to read. This mini-series basically brings to life all those old moments in ways handheld consoles aren't capable of. So it's not really gonna answer any questions you have about the episodes, because it's not meant to. They've already been answered by us, the players, when we played those games many years ago. We just get to see what that looks like in animated form.

The main anime with Ash is its own thing though. It loosely follows the games and isn't a good representation of them. A lot of characters and events are changed or don't even happen

So as stated before, these little shorts are based on moments within the games themselves. And you aren't wrong when thinking the stakes are much higher now. Because where you started here was MY generation. Gen 3. Where powerful legendary Pokemon are more integrated into the story. And ever since Gen 3, the scales of the story have gotten bigger. It kind of capped at Gen 4 what with the Pokemon of Time and Space. But just because Gen 4 is the most strongest, doesn't mean the later generations aren't better. IN FACT! The one where you ended is actually one of the MOST LOVED generations. Gen 5. Because it actually telled a very compelling story with a cast of characters and Pokemon many people now love. Want to emphasize the "now love" part. Because when Gen 5 first came around, it was very controversial due to a number of factors. As the years went on, and future generations had their own problems, Gen 5 is now considered the Golden Era of Pokemon. At least for very old fans of the series.

Like you said, this series is more of an introduction to the events taking place in the game, so most of the context is taken out for it to not be too overwhelming. It's also just a mini web comic, which is understandable why they don't fit the battles in there either. If you want a rounded and wider view of the Pokemon world in general, I'd recommend "The Complete Guide To Ash’s Pokemon Journey" by Jordan Fringe. Ash Ketchum is the real protagonist of the anime and his journey ended quite recently after over a decade of showtime. There's about 4 parts each, 2 hours each video and plus you'd get to see fat Pikachu in his old days.

Things to clarify: Episode 7 This takes place in the Hoenn Region (Generation 3) at Team Magma's hideout. This team wants to increase the world's landmass while decreasing the water levels. To do that, they must awaken the legendary Pokemon, Groudon. Here the protagonist (canonically named Brendan) is chasing after Team Magma, but are stopped by Courtney. Courtney doesn't have the power to see the future in the games, but here she sees that Maxie is unable to control Groudon, specifically in its Primal form. Episode 8 Still in the Hoenn Region, the opposing team to Team Magma, Team Aqua is trying to increase the ocean levels for more aquatic Pokemon to live in using the power of Kyogre, the legendary Pokemon of the sea and archnemesis to Groudon. With the blue orb, counterpart of the red orb used for Groudon, Kyogre can undergo Primal Reversion to go back to its Primal form. Primal forms for Groudon and Kyogre were basically their original forms during ancient times, possessing world destructive powers with the symbols of Alpha and Omega on their bodies until they went into slumber after beating the ever living crap out of each other and reverted to the forms that people know today. Episode 9 Still in the Hoenn Region, this takes place after the Delta Episode in the games. To summarize, a meteorite is heading towards the planetthat may destroy the Hoenn Region. The protagonist eventually captures Rayquaza, the legendary Pokemon that guards the planet from the ozone layer. Rayquaza is in its Mega form, unlike Groudon and Kyogre of the trifecta that have a Primal form. Rayquaza was granted a Mega form after humans pleaded for its help to stop Primal Groudon and Kyogre's ancient battle. In the present, the protagonist flies into space with Mega Rayquaza's power to destroy the meteorite which contained a space virus that mutated into the legendary Pokemon, Deoxys. Noted, it's not the first Pokemon recorded to come from space, but it's definitely one of the strongest with the power to shift between its Normal, Attack, Defense, and Speed form depending on the circumstances. Episode 10 This takes place in the Sinnoh Region (Generation 4) with Cheryl and her Chasey as the stars. Here they traveled in the Eterna Forest where they came across the Old Chateau. The whole experience that happened to them was due to the Nightmare attack of a ghost Pokemon, Haunter which you can recognize from the ghost that swallows them whole. As for the little girl, yeah she's a legit ghost of a person. In the games where you get overhead views of the rooms, when you go inside one of the rooms of the Old Chateau, you see her look around in the room next to the one you are in and then she just leaves. You never get to interact with her. In the games, Cheryl never goes into the Old Chateau, all that happens is that you help her get to the exit. Guess this is what happens when you weren't there with her. Episode 11 Still in the Sinnoh Region, this takes place at Spear Pillar, the highest point of the region and where legends are made. Here, Team Galactic led by the emo leader, Cyrus are hoping to destroy the current world to create a new one that basically robs people of their emotions so that conflict will be a myth. Using the Red Chain that he forcibly created by capturing the legendary Pokemon of the lakes, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf, he summoned Palkia and Dialga to control them with the chain. Cynthia, the champion of the Sinnoh region and her Garchomp are here to stop the, but Giratina, master of the Distortion World (and basically Pokemon Satan) came to punish the heretic. It drag Cyrus into the Distortion World where its true Origin Form is shown and Cyrus is sealed in that world forever. In the games, you follow after Cyrus with Cynthia to have one last battle with him and then proceed to capture or defeat Giratina. Cyrus is left to wander the world, who knows what happened to him afterwards? (Side Note: I just want to gush about how much I love Cassandra Lee Morris voicing Jupiter (Purple hair lady), such an iconic voice actress to me.) Episode 12 (15) This takes place in the Unova Region (Generation 5, specifically sequels to the original games that takes place a few years after). Here, former leader of Team Plasma, but no leader of the new Team Plasma, Ghetsis, is controlling Kyurem to freeze the region over and to rule over it. However, N (which apparently is short for Natural), King of the original Team Plasma and adopted son of Ghetsis plans to stop him with his partner, Reshiram and make right for what the original Team Plasma did a few years ago. N is a "freak without a human heart" because he is capable of hearing the inner voices of Pokemon, and thus had a better relationship with them as opposed to humans. Originally he wanted to liberate all Pokemon from humans, but his mindset was changed thanks to the protagonist. Remember that Kyurem is the supposed shell of the Original Dragon that split off into 3 Pokemon, Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom. Kyurem absorbed Reshiram to turn into its White Form. If it was Zekrom, it would've been its Black Form. The asymmetrical look shows that Kyurem is still incomplete. Here, the person riding Zekrom is the male protagonist of the first Black/White games, even though the protagonist should be the one from Black/White 2. Ken, you were actually correct with your theory, Ghetsis was indeed going to make N into king while actually controlling him and his actions behind the scenes.

So yeah, this set of episodes showcased big climatic moments from the main series games. Each generation (main series game) usually comes with a new team that has their own goals. Most times said goal revolves around some extremely powerful legendary Pokemon. Also just FYI, humans don't really get physically involved with Pokemon battles. It's usually just Pokemon vs Pokemon. Only time a trainer will physically get involved is if another party starts going overboard or is trying to steal their Pokemon. The ball object you saw was a form of Poke Ball. These are how trainers catch Pokemon. And while it seems comfined, officially the Pokeballs are noted to be quite comfortable on the inside for the Pokemon. It's odd technology, but the Pokemon universe is notably extremely technological advanced, far surpassing us in real life lol
