Final Fantasy 16 Playthrough Part 8

Comments

This is the first Final Fantasy game we are playing, so couldn't really do a fair comparison.

Bethany and Ken

Thank you for this context on the music too! 🙏

Bethany and Ken

That's awesome that someone did a mash up of these, and the music of it is intense, so fitting (at least based on what we know from FF16)

Bethany and Ken

Love that you are adding to the playlists! Because of the foster puppy, haven't been able to listen yet, since we have to listen for if the puppy is awake and hungry (he's three weeks old and we've had him for a week, it's like having a newborn) so haven't had my normal music/work routine, but he's starting to acclimate to our routine and developing more independence so my goal is to listen to the playlists by the end of this week. So keep asking, it'll be a good reminder for me and ensure that I let you know once I've listened.

Bethany and Ken

haha, true!

Bethany and Ken

Good to know, thank you! 🙏

Bethany and Ken

Having done this fight, yeah, this makes sense! 🙂

Bethany and Ken

Definitely would have appreciated more Benedikta given the Cid connection and back story that we briefly saw and could have enjoyed more of, but I also agree that a Titan battle was a step up from Garuda and would require Clive to have evolved further in his fighting powers. So on the story side the idea of swapping the order of these two bosses is definitely appealing but on the game play side the order they are in does feel best.

Bethany and Ken

Yep can definitely understand the Asura reference!

Bethany and Ken

Like I've suggested before, many view Hugo Kupka as the antagonist that probably should've been swapped with Benedikta due to their differing amount of depth and relations to other main characters. Can't say I really disagree with the sentiment, but I understand why Hugo stuck around longer. Titan is one the eight original summons that has been around for most of the series' history, whereas Garuda has just barely become a summon in more recent entries. She was never going to get more spotlight. That being said, I still enjoyed Hugo as an antagonist. Gave Clive and the player several valid reasons to make ya want to kick his ass, and I do have a penchant for the whole "villain becomes a monster/shell of their former self" angle. I also find that his story serves as a demonstration as to why a hypothetical Bearer/Dominant uprising might not be the most viable method for obtaining freedom. The aether that they would need to use would likely end up petrifying before long.

Titan Lost is my 3rd favorite boss in the game, the many phases of the fight and the theme are so good. This fight makes me truly feel like one of the rare time this generation where this fight was only possible on next-gen hardware. Plus this is the fight I meant when I said back then that this game gives Asura's Wrath vibes.

seels

2:31:00 BTW, Ifrit's Brimstone also works like Titan's Windup or Upheaval in that it wants you to release the attack when the gauge hits the red zone.

JT

Heh, yeah, so Ifrit vs Titan is the first instance where I'd say you can really see the influence that PlatinumGames had in FF16's development. If ya don't know, PlatinumGames is the studio that is most known for creating action games with big over the top battle sequences like Bayonetta, Nier Automata, Metal Gear Rising, and the Wonderful 101. While CyberConnect2 wasn't involved, there are also some parts of this fight that feel pretty Asura's Wrath coded.

JT

2:14:40 Nah Ultima devious as hell for this shit lmao.

JT

1:44:49 Y'know, I can't even say I blame Kupka for being this upset. Can you imagine having to live like this?

JT

59:00 Oh yeah, since it's never brought up explicitly in-game, I wanted to mention that this is a "Phoenix Down". It's a valuable item that's been a staple of the Final Fantasy series. They're typically used to bring back any party member who's HP drops to zero during battle. Since this game doesn't really have a "party", it's kept to being nothing more than a story element. Bringing all this up now because it's rather relevant info later down the line.

JT

36:53 According to the lore tab, this flower is a "Wyvern Tail", the national symbol of the Empire of Sanbreque. Just keep that in mind as the story progresses, because that detail alone tells so much when combined with the visual storytelling. Though, you may already know what I'm talking about, depending on how far you two are in the game by the time you see this comment.

JT

Remake part 3 please (I'm delusional)

Shadowpunch13

I remember when Mid had been revealed in promo material during the build up to this game's release. Everyone pretty much agreed it was the worst possible time to be named that lmao. Still is, really.

TUMBLING HARD AND TUMBLING FAST

I've begun adding some FF16 tracks to the two VGM playlists I put together last week. I'm beginning to realize that I could use them as yet another way to share more content and passion related to future journeys I may you two on. I've seen that you two have had to lower the volume on the music due to copyright, which is a shame, so perhaps this'll help ya appreciate what may not really be audible. Though I gotta ask (if you've given them a listen), what did ya think of what I included in the playlists? Any notes? Favorites? Ya can be honest, I'm no snowflake lol.

WWW Suggestions Just leaving this here as a placeholder for any suggestions related to the State of Play that’ll be going live a few hours from now. I’ll pull out any announcements that I believe would interest you two depending on whatever happens to be shown off. At least this upload will help with the wait. EDIT - Ok, let's get cracking: Pragmata First Contact Trailer: This is a new IP from Capcom that has been in development hell for quite some time. There have been a few trailers that have sparsely come out over the last 5 years, but now it's gotten a meaningful reveal. Link: https://youtu.be/PdDVyBtYrUI?si=aFse066X6CxQ5pqN Bloodstained The Scarlet Engagement Announce Trailer: This game is a prequel to the indie game series Bloodstained. I know it hasn't really been featured on the channel, but the series is heavily inspired by Castlevania, so maybe it could be of interest. Link: https://youtu.be/-de45inSnWg?si=oazKOL7mUevWBIDQ Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection: You two are much more into Mortal Kombat than I am, but I figure you two would get a kick out of the nostalgia from this announcement. Link: https://youtu.be/st7exi9Oo8U?si=--NneFVJJKJgG2Vv Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater Gameplay Trailer: Just bringing this forward since you two have shown interest in previous trailers for the game. Link: https://youtu.be/sKMayCD1u3w?si=o5SMnWOOzza7s7fK Silent Hill f Release Date Trailer: Ya'll showed interest in the last trailer ya watched for this game, so here ya go. Link: https://youtu.be/CAjCy94hUFI?si=UBIr7alk9ABAOFHd Final Fantasy Tactics The Ivalice Chronicles: This is one of the two possible Final Fantasy related announcements that I was alluding in my replies with Shadowpunch under this comment. Rumors of this game's existence have been thrown around ever since an Nvidia leak suggested that a remake for this game was in the works. Of course I gotta mention it here on this video lol. Now then, let's see if leak #2 comes true later this week 😈. Link: https://youtu.be/sSC0eQdzM20?si=1FktE2w9sZotLTu8 007 First Light Announcement Trailer: Don't know if you two are into James Bond stuff, but if you are, I suppose this may be of interest. Link: https://youtu.be/J4qY9DYE184?si=r3oYWjH14N77vLG6 Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls: This was the big surprise that the event ended on, and for good reason. It's a new Marvel fighting game made by Arc System Works, the studio behind Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. The trailer's subtitles only work if you enable CC on YouTube. Link: https://youtu.be/6fbfrV5qqnU?si=czvEw6nToYaVU71_ Also, here’s a trailer for a more behind the scenes look at Marvel Tokon Link: https://youtu.be/-_kB6LeZDd8?si=wTsCyT2uNeYRoIow

Wanted to share this mashup of Titan Lost and FF14’s themes that someone put together. TBH I find myself enjoying it more than the two original versions as they were separately. Shit goes hard: https://youtu.be/zkQdu0jxmXU?si=0zULpYqG5UM--mP1

While you’ve witnessed a little bit of it through Typhon and Liquid Flame’s boss theme “Catacecaumene”, the music of the battle against Titan Lost really brings out the other half of Soken’s style of composing in FF16. Most of the tracks you’ve been hearing have been epic/ambient orchestral choral songs. But what I love about Soken’s compositions in this game and FF14 is that he has no issue with whipping out these electric & rock fusion bangers just out of nowhere when things get wild lol. Him and a few other members of FF14’s dev team have their own band, named “The Primals”. If you didn’t catch it, each phase of Titan’s fight has its own track: “To Sail Forbidden Seas” – The epic orchestral music you’ve been hearing for quite a few bosses up until the point. Plays during the fight against Titan. “Do or Die” – The track that kicks in during the first half of the clash with Titan Lost. “Titan Lost” – The track that plays in the second half of the battle with Titan Lost. This theme is actually a rearrangement of a track that Soken composed for one of the phases of the fight against Titan in FF14. “Heart of Stone” – The music that plays during the final phase where Ifrit is falling with Titan.

JT

0:20 Damn, top 10 already?! Color me surprised. Even as someone who's planning to complete this game for a third time, I don't know if I'd put it that high lol. Now ya'll have me curious as to what you would think of other FF titles. FF16 is quite different from a good chunk of them.
