OG Dragon Ball 33 Full Reaction

Boy, I am late, but it's time to binge 3 episodes worth! "Happy Binging!" Thank you! Heee, the two of you going back and forth on singing the intro makes me excited for episode 145, by which we might be getting full karaoke sessions of the intro. "Oh, if that lands on your head, this is gonna be a real short show." Final Destination? So, that whole opening had no Japanese subtitles, so...was that originally just a workout montage with no narration? Just show this guy flexing on everyone, neat. Oh, right, this episode, the completely non-canon episode that boldly tried to establish the backstory of the dragon balls. "He's their new prince." Vegeta would like a word. *Receives notification partway through episode* Looks like I'm binging 4 episodes today! "Must I do everything myself?" Sabat really slippin' into his Vegeta there, huh? ...what was mama monkey's plan? She looked like she was gonna swing off that branch, but where would she have swung to? "Object's not pure of heart, but it's not IMPURE of heart." Is this a Mjolnir situation?

I feel like we saw a death battle on this and it was superman who won that fight if I am remembering correctly. But honestly, feels like Goku may have the edge because of Superman's weakness to kryptonite.

I bursted out in laughter when you guys mentioned Fat Bastard from Austin Powers, I'll never forget how funny his character was in the movie Lol aside from that, as many others mentioned, this was definitely filler to give time for Toriyama to write this arc. Many old school and some modern anime definitely ran into issues like these, but since the late 2010s to now, anime series for the most part are released seasonally. Jujutsu Kaisen is a good example of this, it's currently pending its 3rd season whereas back in the old days seasons 1 and 2 would've had a bunch of filler episodes/scenes and then the 3rd season would show up a bit earlier, but with lower quality and more annoying filler

Who do u thinks better superman or goku?

The demon world, namek and earth dragon balls were all created by different individuals but they all come from the same source: the namekians

like others have said, this episode is filler so the dragonball origin story that roshi told should be taken with a grain of salt. my headcanon is roshi is just telling a story he was told through the grapevine. he has no idea if its true but its just what he's heard

25:00 Well, the different explanations that DBS and Daima have been rather tricky to put together, which has been a point of debate as to whether or not the two series should really be considered part of the same canon. I'm not gonna go into the subject until you two have finished Daima, but I'll try to give you a timeline of each Dragon Ball set's creation under the assumption that the two series co-exist (to the best of my ability): Rymus created the 18 universes, which presumably led to the birth of the creator of the Super Dragon Balls, the Dragon God "Zalama". Since free travel to the outside world was still permitted in the Demon Realm, the Namekians residing there had ventured out and harvested some pieces of the Super Dragon Balls after learning of their existence. These "pieces" served as the first set of Dragon Balls. After studying these Super Dragon Ball pieces, Dragon Clan Namekians learned how to reproduce them using their magical abilities, of which Neva is the first to do so. The Namekians left the Demon Realm and settled into Universes 6 and 7. The Namekians that end up settling on Planet Namek in Universe 7 produce the Namekian Dragon Balls, which are then passed down from elder to elder (alongside the knowledge of how to create them). Due to a cataclysmic climate shift, the Namekians living on U7's Planet Namek were forced to flee or perish. Among them was the Nameless Namekian that Piccolo and Kami used to be before they split, who ends up on Earth. Once the Nameless Namekian splits, Kami ends up creating the set of Earth's Dragon Balls. This timeline is rather questionable due to the amount of assumptions and headcanon it takes to put it all together. But again, not gonna get into that until you've finished Daima.

Pretty much all the parts where the monkeys get hunted, Frieza will stan 😂

Cynergy

They used the same full footage w/ the watermark format in their latest FMAB upload, so I would like to think this is the new standard. Hope I'm right.

JT

I think ive gotten so used to syncing up crunchyroll to your reactions, it surprised me that you played the episode in full on this reaction, are you guys testing the waters or was this a mistake? 😅 i kinda liked this episode, loved the cliffhanger joke the narrator made at the end of the episode 😂

Cynergy

27:37 Now ya'll have me convinced that Fat Bastard would genuinely be able to pass as an OGDB villain lmao. Dr. Evil too, to be honest. 😆

JT

Oh god….either because filler or tori reconning again 😬

BNutt18

So the whole monkey thing never happened? How did the five star really get found then?

Serpent King

Frieza hates this episode. Edit: Except this part (20:18) Edit 2: And this part lol (21:13)

As others have made a point to mention, this episode is part of a little filler arc (eps 29 - 33). So Roshi’s whole explanation about the origins of the Dragon Balls was entirely made up by Toei and isn’t considered canon/real lore. Guess ya can’t really hold it against them, because Toriyama’s manga had not yet introduced Kami or explained that he was the creator of the Dragon Balls. That chapter wouldn’t come until about 9 months after this episode aired. Although, I suppose you could argue that they provided a tad more intrigue to the Dragon World as a result.
