OG Dragon Ball 30 Full Reaction

great episode, love the introduction of the red ribbon army especially because they play such an important role later in the android saga so it's cool seeing their origin. just an all around fun episode with all these different players involved.

The dub cuts out yet another insert song, this time right at the start of the episode and fills the void with the narrator talking over it. The song is called, "Doragon Bōru Densetsu" or "The Dragon Ball Legend". I believe it plays a few more times, albeit not in the dub. (In fact, if I recall correctly it might even be the ending theme to one of the movies). As you can tell OG Dragon Ball has quite a number of insert songs, wish they got more love in more recent projects.

Oops, I now realize that I mixed up my filler arcs last episode. To be fair, they're mixing up their filler and not filler. Pilaf showing up wasn't in the manga, but Col. Silver was. An interesting blend, for sure. Oh cool, Pilaf, in Japanese, blatantly states it's been 1 year and 15 days since the Shenron's summoning. "Guess I'll follow my nose." Damn...now I want Fruit Loops. In case it sounds familiar, the Red Ribbon Army theme is the music TFS used for Ginyu Force in DBZA. "According this symbol, his nickname must've been Ralph." Was...that a King Ralph reference, Funimation? The movie featuring John Goodman? Was not ready for that. "There he is. To the right, to the right!" Ken treating Goku like he's Dora the Explorer. Hmm...Dora's probably smarter, huh? Bethany calling Pilaf a self proclaimed king made me curious, so I looked it up. While it went purely by title for decades, apparently, the game Kakarot has an entry in its encyclopedia that explains that he was a prince, but after his kingdom lost a war with a country they attempted to invade, Pilaf ran off with his father's treasures, sold them to build his castle, and pretty much exhausted all of the remaining funds by the start of the series. I learned a thing today, and I'm glad to know just how much of an idiot Pilaf is, whether its canon or not. Credit to the anime; bringing Pilaf back in to kind of help transition into the new villains, since they have to also fill up time and can't be as quick as the manga was.

Yep, welcome to the Red Ribbon Army! As far as y'alls Dragon Ball journey goes, you only know of the RR Army via the androids, Cell, and Gammas 1 & 2, but now you guys get to see the root of how it all started. Some iconic villains will definitely come out of this one (especially one in particular, definitely looking forward to that part), so it's gonna definitely be a wild ride. Just like you said Ken, these guys are the first "true" villains of the series, and what just happened at the end of this episode is a small taste of what's to come
