Thank you!

Bethany and Ken

So appreciative of this context and love the idea of throwing us into the deep end of lore once we have had a taste of the game!

Bethany and Ken

Thank you for this wealth of information- super helpful! 🙏

Bethany and Ken

Love this fun fact- thank you for sharing! 🙏😃

So little fun fact, the person who made this , Moro, also animates some Death Battles. The battles that I can tell he animated so far are Gojo Vs Makima, Bowser vs Eggman, and Shigaraki vs Mahito, the last two being part of the “fundraiser season.” And unsurprisingly, these battles are considered some of the very best Death Battle battles ever made. You guys have seen his animation and how great it is, so it’s no wonder why they are considered the best. Was disappointed you guys had to skip out on Shigaraki and Mahito, but makes sense since those two play a huge part from their respective anime’s. I definitely can’t wait to see what he does next and can’t wait for the second episode of Indie cross. The most famous indie game will appear so i can’t wait.

A disclaimer though (should you two decide to play it): Undertale is a game with a fandom that is infamous for backseating. Best to take every precaution imaginable against spoilers.

Y'all should play undertale please it's a masterpiece

Some introductions to the characters so far: Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight): A warrior from the game of the same name who primarily uses a shovel alongside a treasure trove of other weapons such as a horn, fire rod, and even a propeller. You briefly saw his companion/love interest Shield Knight at the beginning who he has to go through his game to save from an evil Enchantress and her Order of no Quarter. Cuphead (Cuphead): A kid with a cup for a head and he and his game are very inspired by the Rubber-Hose style of cartoons from the 1930's and before. He uses lots of energy bullets from his fingers with some extra powers thrown in there like turning into a buff version of himself and shooting a big cup beam. In his game he made a deal with the devil in a casino but lost the bet and he along with his brother Mugman spends the game repaying their debt by battling bosses and repossessing their souls for that same devil. Madeline (Celeste): A girl who has to climb the titular mountain named Celeste to find herself and conquer her anxiety and depression. She is exceptionally skilled at climbing and can also shift her momentum like a double jump and her hair turns blue to signify that she's used it up. Her other purple haired self is named Badeline who's basically her fear and anxiety personified constantly telling her to not climb the mountain the whole game with powers of her own, but by the end of the story they make up and learn to accept one another and fuse becoming stronger than ever. Frisk (Undertale): A child who is the main character of Undertale who falls down a hole at the top of a mountain and ends up in the underground filled with monsters and other odd beings. The unique thing about him and Undertale itself is the player decides for them whether to kill monsters or spare them. Without going into too many spoilers this specific version of Frisk in the show seems to lean way more into the genocide route of their game which is why they're very cold, emotionless, and have the weapon named "Real Knife" which is the strongest weapon in the game and mainly used in art and other material to show that they've gone down that route. They mainly want to kill everything and anything as a result of their specific player's actions. Hollow Knight is one of the few games in this show that I haven't played myself so I can't say much about him, so someone else can explain him if they'd like. Hope this gives a good background of all the characters so far!

It ain't just Cuphead, but I would argue that all of the games represented in this series tend to be rather challenging. Most indie darlings like the ones here are made by core gamers, for core gamers. They don't have the luxury of getting recognition out of name/brand alone like Pokemon or GTA, so their content really needs to be worth a damn. That being said, allow me to give some primers about these characters and their game of origin as someone who is a fan of all of 'em. Shovel Knight (from Shovel Knight): Shovel Knight is a 2D platformer that takes influence from classics like Mega Man and Duck Tales NES, starring the main character of the same name. His game revolves around his adventure to save his love, Shield Knight (the red character near the start) after losing her to Tower of Fate and The Enchantress, who aims to take over his home, simply named "The Valley". Cuphead (from Cuphead): Cuphead's game is a 2D run and gun game. The game follows him and his brother Mugman, as they make a deal with the Devil to pay casino losses by repossessing the souls of runaway debtors. The game is incredibly distinguished and praised for its incredibly faithful portrayal of the rubber hose animation style of 1920s-30s cartoons. You've heard correctly. This game is TOUGH. I'll admit that I haven't managed to finish it myself (yet). The Knight (from Hollow Knight): Hollow Knight is of a subgenre known as "Metroidvania". If you're unaware as to what that is, it's a genre that was strongly defined by the Metroid and Castlevania series. They're 2D action platformers that focus heavily on exploring non-linear worlds that start becoming more open to the player as they obtain more abilities. The reason this community and I have been insisting you look into this game is that it takes heavy influence from FromSoft games, especially Dark Souls. Both in its aesthetic and the way in which it delivers lore. There are plenty of good lore videos, but I like to let you guys get a taste of the game overall before throwing you into the deep end like that. Frisk (from Undertale): Undertale is an RPG that takes heavy inspiration from the Mother/EarthBound series. Ya'll will never have any concept of just how big this game was back in the mid to late 2010s. There really isn't too much that I can discuss about without spoiling what makes it so special, so all I'll say is that the game has one of the most reactive "choices matter" systems in just about any game you'll find. As someone who grew up with it during its golden years, I'd love to recommend more content around it. Gonna have to give me time on that though. Madeline & Badeline (from Celeste): Seels seems to have given you details on the character, so I'll just talk more about the game itself. Celeste is a 2D precision platformer with a message and story that really resonated with people. This allowed it to get nominated for GOTY back in 2018. Stories addressing the subjects of depression, anxiety, and lack of self-confidence are not new, but the way in which Celeste does it is allows it to be incredibly impactful without being pretentious. On top of that, the characters, music, and gameplay mechanics are just really enjoyable. Like Undertale, I would love to start recommending more content about it. I just don't have too much that would work as solid introductory material.

Need to watch ep 2 of this, now that you've reminded me.

Heh, ya'll thought I wouldn't be prepared for this. Little did ya'll know I've had some playlists relating to some of these games for a while WWW Suggestions Cuphead Trailers Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIWuLW6bGbvkGpZusf2xXnVO&si=Eea1isawCoLXlPIc Shovel Knight Trailers Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIWWdDsyCWZH9U6rXdhSXHrp&si=t2dHWKgAxqD6y9F7 Hollow Knight Trailers https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIUOzw2HbyMXkXB37EfB6xzu&si=rbss9FC7EBTZ-vP_ Celeste and Undertale don't have too many trailers for them, so I'll just stick to detailing them in another comment. I really ought do a sort of grab bag playlist for smaller indie games that don't have much beginner-type material for them.
