Woo hoo – we got Jacques back!! (JK of course, lol) While it’s cool to have side characters from later (like Whitley and Willow) participating in the plot as they likely would have, it’s jarring to see them rolled back to less mature stages of growth (although we can see how far they have come!) At least Tai and Zwie are like we remember. This episode seems to have dialogue that better fleshes out the narrative than the original trailers / episodes did, yet I generally like some of the action sequencing + emotional resonance of original RWBY more. It’s too bad the scripts weren’t as fleshed in the originals. Still, some of the redone fights seem more rational. I really do like the Weiss bit in how strongly it establishes her character and emphasizes her trademark scar – the wound has always been a sign of her ability and tenacity. Born into the indulgent Atlas elite, she remains disciplined and willing to endure any pain necessary to achieve her goals. Rather than being handed success, she finds value in earning it herself. She is far stronger than we had realized, at this age, than in the original series. I also like how the Black Trailer content more firmly establishes WHY Blake left Adam. She values all life; he only values Faunus. It was scary for her to leave, yet she intuitively knew she couldn’t stay – and we see how much it means to her that Beacon became an option. Cinder is kept more under wraps this time out. But they hit all the necessities – like Ozpin’s first words to Ruby. “Vomit Boy” image – poor Jaune, he’ll never get away from that one, lol.

It's so strange to see RWBY not animated, but rather... anime-ted.

Yeah, I have seen the first 4-5 episodes and that was how I felt too -- like a retelling of certain events that we've already seen during seasons that were still fairly rough in the animation and storytelling or had been stylized differently (such as Weiss' qualifying for Beacon). I had liked some of the ways various scenes were developed better but didn't at times feel the same emotional impact as some of the original sequences. And then of course this veers into the dream narrative which doesn't mesh as well with the original story but is interesting as an alternate plot line.

I am so excited for this, I think out of all the things that you guys have covered since volume 9 this is the one I've been excited for the most! Great reaction as usual guys!

Anyone else looking at Yang left arm funny?

Something nice to look forward to as well is at the end of each episode there is a fan art or official art. Also, not sure if you caught on, but Torchwick’s voice is not the same as the one he had during the first episode of actual RWBY. This of course is because of the original VA for him passing, so they used the new VA, which was also used in certain spots in V9, for his scene here.

Think of RWBY main show, RWBY x Justice League, and RWBY Ice Queendom as all being part of the RWBY multiverse. The things that happened in the alternate shows have no real bearing on the main show but the main show was still the starting point for the alternate shows before they splintered off with their alternate events that made them their own timeline. It honestly creates endless possibilities for RWBY and allows for things to be done over again if they didn't like how it happened the first time, and it allows for completely new things to happen that they hadn't originally considered.

YESSSS YALL DOING IT :))

Also, from my understanding this is also like an alternate timeline as well, as there are events that happened in this series that did not take place in the main series

RWBY Ice Queendom is basically a remake/remastered version of RWBY but in a more anime style animation. Not only that from what I remembered some of the stories in each episodes have been changed a bit to better fit the context of the whole story and lore or just enhance the pacing and action overall.
