Oh wow, sounds like patience is needed then while trying to power up a dragon 🐉

The differences between Western and Eastern dragons is exactly what I hoped would surprise you. It’s very fascinating how mythical creatures of the same name can vary in different cultures. Western ones being what we’re more familiar with. The usual scaly, quadrupedal, fire-breathing lizards they are. Usually depicted in media as a very dangerous creature that characters must overcome. Though with more recent media, some of them are intelligent beings that just add to the world they reside in. Eastern Dragons though are more special. You’ve already seen the example through Shenron from Dragon Ball. He’s got a snake-like body, the antlers of a stag/deer, and the claws of either a tiger or hawk. Eastern dragons seem more like a hodgepodge of different animals. And that’s because they are. In Asia, Dragons are more seen as Forces of Nature, rather than a typical mythical creature. They are meant to symbolize nature, power, and authority. They were also seen as being the ultimate creature, so Eastern dragons can have various parts of different animals, because they represent the best aspects of those animals to create the ultimate creature. To quickly touch more on the nature representation. Eastern Dragons have a closer affinity to the sea, storms, and winds. Very different to the fire breathing ones in the west. Though like the ones in the west, Media has been around for so long that eastern dragons can also wield any element depending on the writer. Either way, both sides’ Dragons will always be incorporated in every fantasy world because they are so interesting and cool.

Lockstin is very correct about Dragon Pokémon being powerful and more importantly, rare. Because Pokémon are pretty much living weapons, Dragon type Pokémon are the equivalent of any other RPG game that puts a powerful weapon very late into the game. That being said though, the more recent games have allowed players to get dragons fairly early. But Lockstin also mentioned that Dragon Pokémon take longer to level up. What may take another Pokémon 10 battles to level up, could take a Dragon Pokémon 20 battles to level up. That’s supposed to be the trade-off for getting a powerful Pokémon early.
