Like he acts like a kid, is nonchalalant and jokes around a lot, but he's actually really confident and strategic without coming across as arrogant, except maybe to his enemies.

The animation is meh, but you're right about the color palette helping. It does bring something different to this series. The music was on point this episode and I'm so excited for the next.
