I think oblivious MCs in harem-like shows are just a way for lazy writers to keep the comedic status quo going and never actualy commit to any meaningful character or story development. But the MC will be brilliant in anything related to making him look badass, as long as it doesn't affect the status quo.

How is he gonna keep saying he can't have a license because he's poor, and then the episode starts with him complaining about lizard waifu dropping too much gold and jewels on his doorstep? I know the knight guy is so blantantly discriminatory that just being from the slums would be enough to be refused a license... but I'm willing to bet Zenos never even tried, since he was recruited by his party fairly young. You got to wonder how many times these women will have to call him amazing and ask to have his babies before he realises he's not less than average. This show is so stupid. It's fun though. But so stupid. Not everyone can be Cid Kagenou. And why do I feel that instead of having him use his healing powers in interesting ways to showcase his awesomeness, every other healer in the land will just be an incompetent buffoon? Am I too snobbish to hope for a *little bit* of effort in my power fantasy animes? At least make him consciously chose to work as a underground healer to go against a corrupt system. Not just because he's too dumb to check what his powers are worth. He didn't even spent a full day after being dumped by his old party before deciding on this new life path and sticking to it like it was his lifelong ambition.

2025-04-21 04:30:14 +0000 UTCI have no problem with The Beginning After the End. People were prepared to hate it even before it aired its first episode. I did read some of the manga, but I don't yet, at least, see what all the hype is about. I don't think it's the art, though. As for oblivious MC's, there's a huge one in Atelier Master, yeah, they are everywhere. Why is that I wonder? There seem to be two foci for this tendency: either it's about who likes them, or it's about how talented they are.
