I loved the cowering crewman encounter with Rei, that sooooo smacks of the randomly important NPC expositional hint in many a jrpg. The ballistas (and the fishing, for that matter) almost felt like mini games you sometimes get during certain key battles, with Rust and Mold (it just occurred to me that those are both forms of decay, filing that away for future use) understanding the assignment and studying how to use them properly. Psyger still scorched and weakened makes this a fair fight, while Akitsu being the (relative) noob dragged along by her high level party is also very on point for an MMORPG (there's a term for this, but my brain hasn't had caffeine yet, so I'm grasping at straws here). I'm also betting Akitsu just didn't know/remember to drop from the party, whereas Rei was agonizing over it because she hasn't just (wo)manned up and forced her tongue down our boy's throat like she desperately wants to. I can't tell if Mold is running a straight mage, a priest, or some kind of bard build. Random popup misclick triggered... feelings. Not good ones.
