The talking transformation object's voice reminds me a lot of the Intelligent Devices that the magical girls used to transform in the Lyrical Nanoha franchise. But I'm not very familiar with Power Rangers / Super Sentai so perhaps Nanoha got the idea of this from super sentai shows. Especially as Nanoha deliberately borrowed lots of tropes from genres outside of magical girl (e.g., Gundam).

He recently acquired the watch 2nd hand, and I had to figure out why the voice only sometimes played or only played part of the sound file. Turns out it was just the batteries. In the show itself, however, 1st episode, the thing is so well-drawn that it stands out against the rest of the animation. It does seem like they made the show with merch in mind. It's worth watching the 1st episode if you want to see some well-done animation in days past, but it doesn't cross the line for me into the "made for all audiences" category. Feels like an original Digimon/Pokemon-type level of story.
