2025-01-08 05:24:31 +0000 UTCI disagree sir, see my comment above. You may need to frame by frame the cell phone scene to see the detail. But she's a brand new animator, and a one-hit wonder so far. She's riding the hype of her first work. The studio wants to capitalize on her success by writing more of what sells, but she's too much of an edge lord to do it. The point of the story is to physically beat the naivety out of her, and maybe learn a fundamental truth along the way: generic is safe, generic sells, generic fades quickly in the ocean of genre. Edge alone is not the solution. Edge is flavor, edge is spice, but edge alone, an engaging story does not make. She'll learn what plot and character development are, and how relatability is the real hook. I have high hopes for her, but she's just an annoying call of duty child. Throw her in a real war, with actual consequence, and see how quickly she grows up.

2025-01-08 02:48:07 +0000 UTCThe bits at the very beginning were easy to miss. When she was doom scrolling on her phone, one of the messages was about the author of Tale of perishing dieing. That was shocking to her. Even though that anime was considered a flop, it seems she really loved it. The President brought the food and specifically warned everyone to throw out the clams because they were expired. They even had a date on the container. Usually when your meat looks like rainbows that means that it is well past spoiled. So I think I see where this is headed. She's an edge lord, the female protag of No Longer Allowed. She thinks her first work was a smashing success because it was generic fluff, and she's internalizing some loathing because it's not what she wants to write. And this generic rom-com, she just can't bring herself to do it, not enough edge. Now she's being punished by having to suffer through the reality of a world written by an edge lord so she can get over herself and learn what makes storytelling engaging.

I am glad she exposed her face in the last part of the show, though, as the constant mass of hair (despite fun "return to your nest" and gremlin jokes) was getting a bit uncanny valley alienating. Or I was starting to have The Ring flashbacks. Hopefully if she keeps up that schtick we'll at least see her mouth, as in the later shots.
