I think it's also said in the legendary war movie Full Metal Jacket (if you haven't seen it, highly recommended). Shikanoko's fear of PET/Plastic bottles actually was mentioned in episode 1 and also came up a few times throughout. Only through dialogue though. Remember episode 3 where Koshitan thought the real deer was Shikanoko and she surrouned the dear with PET bottles to scare her?

I'm sorry, did you miss the floating deer demon in the sky? There was no way nokotan was going to die. We were just denied an opportunity to see her true form. At the very least she would have gone full Sith lord and deflected the bullet.
