Instead of thinking Yorishige as the capital G god (as in, omnipotent Abrahamic god that's more familar to English speakers), the more appropriate analogy of him in a western fantasy context would be more like a Wizard or Diviner. Yorishige's bloodline is worshipped in Suwa as divine and he, thanks to such faith, can wield divine power and be at his most potent in Suwa, as all divine power locally goes to him, but outside of Suwa he's more or less just a minor prophet and his power fades as the human civilization progresses. Most of these would be expositions later but I thought it's better to clarify them first!

The anime cut a lot of historical exposition on Suwa claiming to be a god. In Shinto tradition there were some people who were considered living gods (Arabitogami) who traced bloodlines to mythical figures. In this period, there were three who were venerated in this fashion, those being the Emperor, the chief priest of Izumo and the chief priest of Suwa. Yorishige is the chief priest of Suwa taisha, a shrine that traces its lineage to at least the earliest days of Japanese history and may even be linked to ancient pagan customs that predate the Yamato (modern Japanese) people. Its god is the god of wind, water, hunting and war. It was thus worshipped by eastern samurai that formed cult societies asking for its protection in battle. Yorishige isn’t a god in the sense that he’s an immortal being meddling with men. He’s a man, but also the lord of his province, battle pope to his samurai and considered a living incarnation of his diety .

Annoyed at myself for forgetting this came out today, but either way loving the show's direction and how they are handling it. They surprisingly cut out a lot of exposition, to match the pacing which I think in some cases is great, but others it would have been beneficial. I'll just mention the exposition that I think should have been mentioned, which is that the manga says that Suwa is a region known for it's obsidian, which as the person above mentioned, is super sharp and they stabbed the boar on a massive obsidian spike. Still, amazing episode as always and seriously looking forward to next episode (and hoping you didn't see my now deleted comment accidently hinting at something I thought they would cover this episode)

Or maybe this god just has too many screws loose to actually do something himself. haha It makes for a funny story tho. So I'm all for it :D

i mean said god is taking the long way to do the exact same thing so if he truly all powerful he would have done so already. the answer to why he can't do more is because there wouldn't be a story if he was a god by normal standards so they nerf him to be a powerful guide so there's a story

Also: If you see shimmering black stone that's sharp AF, it's Obsidian (volcanic glass) in 9/10 cases. Sharper than any knife you can buy, but pretty brittle. I have a piece at home ... and handling it almost always causes me to cut myself because I'm as clumsy as this stone is sharp. XD

Smite our enemies? ... Come on Brandon ... You're Isekai trash like us. You have seen so many gods that you should know that gods are lazy f*cks who just claim that "they can't interfere" when it comes to do some actual work in their own worlds. Even worse when it comes to your own world's gods like in this show. haha
