There's some translation choice in the manga that didn't actually get carried around to the anime subtitles in many platform with reason unknown to me. At first I thought the anime will explain them, so I didn't say anything afraid that it was considered as a spoiler, but we're 10 eps already and it didn't get explained still, so I don't know why the translation didn't get carried around. So "Yoju" in the manga translation (or the translation in Manga Up at least) was translated as "the aftermath kaiju" since ch. 1, meaning the yojus were exclusively smaller kaijus spawned after the bigger kaijus were dead like the mushroom kaiju. So the creepy kaiju that attacked Kafka and Reno in ep 1 was a yoju spawned from the dead kaiju they cleaned up. I saw many reactors confused when this creepy yoju showed up and thought that yoju was a brand new kaiju that infiltrated the area while it was not. The reason Reno could quickly assuming it was a yoju was because he was cleaning the carcass area where it could spawned. Honju and Daikaiju I think will be explained more in later episode--or season, idk--but Brandon is right that Daikaijus were the one numbered. Oh, and in the manga Daikaiju was translated as "Great Calamity Kaiju". Kinda cool name and self-explanatory for me. Maybe they kept the original term for the OG kaiju/godzilla franchise fans.

2024-06-02 20:13:24 +0000 UTCWith regards to the "Numbering Kaiju" discussion: So far, we have encountered multiple designations in the anime: Yoju, the small ones. Honju, everything bigger than the Yoju - even the "big" Kaiju at the exam area and the giant mushroom during this first mission were considered Honju. Daikaiju, which is explained by Hoshina this episode as those who are fortitude 8.0 or higher. So then, does that mean only Kaiju who escape are numbered? Or is it that all Daikaiju get numbers? Maybe one of those, maybe both, maybe something completely different. Hasn't been determined in the anime yet, so we can leave it at that.
