Chapter 36: Angel of Mysteries

Khaos Bridgade Base

Mephisto looked at his opponent. He was a beautiful fallen angel with jet-black hair that came to his neck and ruby-red eyes. His skin was a sickly pale tone, and he wore a black angelic battle armor, holding a sword.

The old devil knew exactly who this fallen angel was—he is Raziel, the former archangel of Mysteries. His twelve black wings behind him, which seem to absorb all the light that hits them, are evidence enough of the fallen angel's suppressed might.

Mephisto had encountered Raziel in the past; the fallen angel was still pure back then. They had fought to a draw, but neither of them used high-level magic spells that only the most talented mages would be able to even comprehend.

Mephisto looked into Raziel's crimson eyes and knew that he also remembered him. They both sized each other up as their subordinates clashed all around them.

There were angels, youkais, fallen angels, and even vampires here. Mephisto was not surprised to see vampires here because Raziel is, in fact, the progenitor of the vampire race with Cain.

Flashback Scene Ahead

As the story goes, Cain slew his brother Abel and was cursed with the mark of Cain, which made him an immortal monster thirsty for human blood but would always become hungry again no matter how much he consumed.

Raziel, disillusioned with God and his rules, allowed his own ambitions and search for knowledge to overtake him. He then kidnapped Cain and subjected him to inhuman experiments, which eventually led to the curse place on him to mutate.

Cain became the first vampire, an ancient vampire who has none of the weaknesses that modern-day vampires have and is stronger.

The angel kidnapped Cain and took him to an underground lab he had built to hide his experiments and forbidden knowledge from God's gaze.

How did Raziel hide from God's sight, one might ask? It was simple. As one of the oldest angels, Raziel knew of the other pantheons of gods. He hid in one of their domains, which they shielded from others.

"I will get you for this, you monster, " Cain swore. He was tied down to a table with holy chains that burned his skin slightly but didn't do much else damage.

"That's funny coming from you, creature, " Raziel said with distain as he observed the once human because whatever Cain had become could be in no way be human.

Cain, when first found by the angel, was cursed with immortality, accompanied by the need to drink human blood. At first glance, the human appeared normal, but as the experiments began, his true nature began to manifest.

The Cain chain down on the table looked more bat than human. He had a humanoid form with the face of a bat and wings, his eyes are blood red, and he is over 10 feet tall.

Raziel, in his hubris, underestimated Cain's curse and the strength he gained from his transformation. In a flash, the cursed human bit into the angel's neck, taking a chunk out of it.

"You dirty bastard, " Raziel shouted as he used a spear of light to cut Cain in half but he did not take into account the curse that human blood getting into his open wound would on his neck.

Cain didn't die from the injuries he suffered because of the curse placed on him by god, the curse of immortality.

"Ugh, what is happening to me? " Raziel exclaimed. His body felt like it was on fire.

Unbeknownst to the angel, his body was transforming into that of a vampire born from Cain's curse. Needless to say, Raziel fell, his once beautiful white wings now black.

Raziel's body shook from the pain, and the fallen angel screamed until his voice gave out. His once blue eyes turned to flowing red, his canines became fangs, and his normal ears became pointed.

Raziel would pass out from the pain and wake up hours later to a fully regenerated Cain next to him. The two stared at each other: one with a smirk on his lips and the other with a pained one.

Raziel could only sit up while Cain was on his feet. The angel looked at him. They were 10 feet away from each other. There was a silence as they both tried to regain their bearings.

"You disgusting creature, what did you do to me? " Raziel demanded, fighting through his pain. A deep hunger started to awaken in him. "And how are you back to normal? "

"How should I know you're a fallen angel? You're the one who caused all this by kidnapping me. "Cain replied with a dark amusement in his crimson eyes. "But one thing I do know is that you now share my curse, brother."

Raziel was confused and disgusted by Cain calling him his brother. The angel also heard the creature call him a "fallen angel, " and his head snapped to the side as he summoned his wings. To his horror, they were jet black.

Cain took a perverted pleasure in watching Raziel in agony as he looked at his 12 black wings, which showed he had fallen from God's grace. But the former human knew that this was not all that had changed about the angel.

"Hey, I think you didn't quite understand what I was saying when I called us brothers. My curse now lives in you. " Cain stated with a sadistic expression.

"What? " Raziel exclaimed. He jumped to his feet and used magic to make water and looked at his own appearance. "How could this happen? "

"I think that God's curse flows through not only my soul but also my body. When my blood came into contact with yours, my curse was passed onto you, " Cain explained what he thought happened. Raziel now understood and had to agree.

"So I am cursed too, " Raziel stated. He knew that this was true. His new appearance, similar to Cain's with the red eyes and fangs, said it all.

Now, thinking back on it, Raziel knew he should have expected this. God's most powerful curses seem to not only affect the one it is placed on but also the surrounding people and area. The fallen angel Samuel is a great example.

Samuel, known as the Venom of God or the Dragon Eater, was cursed by God for his sins. He was transformed into a being with the traits of both a dragon and a fallen angel, carrying a curse that could kill even high-level dragons with just a drop of his blood.

The curse was so potent that it affected all beings close to Samuel, not just dragons or snakes. It came to the point that God had to seal the dragon eater in the deepest part of hell to stop the curse from spreading.

"I think your new look suits you, " Cain said, teasing the recently fallen angel, who came out of his thoughts and glared at the filthy monster in front of him.

"I think it is time I end you, monster, " Raziel said while creating a massive spear of light to evaporate Cain. He hoped that if there were no remnants left, the cursed human would not be able to regenerate. "Be purified by the light, creature."

"Wait! Hold on a minute, let's not do something we both will regret, " Cain exclaimed as he didn't want to find out if he could regenerate from getting hit with an attack like that.

Cain closed his eyes, waiting for the pain to come, but it never did. Instead, when he opened his eyes, he saw Raziel with a confused look on his face.

"What is this? " Raziel said to himself as he was unable to launch his attack on Cain. His mind was going a mile a minute until he came up with one conclusion: "I can't kill him; he is the source of the curse, and I am the extension of said curse."

Cain heard all of this. He was shocked at first, but that soon turned to a gleeful happiness; his foe couldn't harm him anymore. With a cocky grin, the former human walked up to Raziel.

"So brother, when are we going to get out of here and have some fun? " Cain said with a smirk. "I am starving here."

Cain's statement made Raziel realize that he, too, was starving and knew it was for human blood to his horror. All he ever wanted was to learn all the mysteries of the world. Now, he was not only a fallen but also cursed.

Raziel canceled his attack and then moved away from Cain. He knew that he wouldn't be able to harm him now, but a fool like the former human was going to get on the wrong side and get what was coming to him.

Years passed, and Cain followed Raziel, spreading his curse. The former human discovered that he had some control over the fallen angel—not much, thanks to his willpower, but he used that to infect several humans during their travels.

Raziel quickly learned of his new weakness to the sun and to some holy objects, but in exchange, he was essentially immortal, although he needed to drink human blood to survive.

The fallen angel-vampire hybrid knew that he was the strongest vampire alive, with Cain being the second. Not that it matters because, as he predicted, the former human got on the bad side of a god and was sealed away.

This happened in a time when Raziel had managed to hide himself from Cain, the first vampire, who could almost always tell where he was through their bond of blood. But the fallen didn't want to deal with Cain, so he used almost all his power to make a special barrier that could hide his presence, even if temporarily.

Cain had infected the demigod daughter of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, and in his hubris, he thought he couldn't be defeated because she couldn't kill him. Well, long story short, he was thrown into Tartarus.

"I hope that he enjoys being passed around like currency down there, " Raziel thought sadistically. He knew that Cain would wish he was able to die by the time the creatures sealed in Tartarus were done with him.

Flashback Scene End

"Mephisto, " Raziel said in acknowledgement, respecting the being in front of him for his thirst for knowledge, similar to his own, even if he was a devil. "We meet on the field of battle again."

"Why have you joined Khaos Brigade, Raziel? " Mephisto asked curiously. The fallen angel/vampire hybrid wasn't one to do anything to put himself in the spotlight; he rather stayed in the shadows.

"I want to get access to God's forbidden knowledge, Mephisto, " Raziel answered honestly, "I have traveled the world and learned much from other pantheons but the one thing that eludes me is the secret god keep to himself even in death."

"I think I understand now, " Mephisto muttered, the biblical god had untold knowledge of many things from life and death, space and time, and other topics that none in the world comes close to figuring out "So Khaos Brigade planning to attack Heaven at some point."

This was not a question. To get God's forbidden knowledge, one must go into the deepest part of Heaven, further than where even the sacred gears system is located.

"I think the time for talking is over, " Raziel stated as he raised his sword in one hand, the other started to create magic circles. This was why the fallen angel was so dangerous not because of his near immortality but his swordsmanship and his use of magic.

Mephisto wordlessly cast several defensive and offensive spells at once, his body glowing as multiple magic circles appeared all around him.

The hybrid and devil stared at each other as all around them, the extra demon faction and agents of Khaos Brigade battled.

In a blink of an eye the two were face to face, magic and fist vs. sword and magic, their clash shook the battle field showing their awesome power.
