Chapter 1: Will Of Fire

Elemental Nation...

Naruto can only watch in despair as his son Boruto and his adopted son Kawaki fight to the death. He wonders if this is how the Sage of Six Paths felt watching his sons go at it, even after their deaths through the incarnations.

By his side is Hinata, who was crying at the fight. The two boys teamed up to defeat the evolved Shinju tree, but now that their common enemy has been defeated, they've started to tear each other apart.

Naruto can understand why they both fought Boruto over the life that was stolen from him, and how Boruto views him as a threat to his happiness.

Naruto knew that in the end, one of them must die because there was too much bad blood between them. The blonde wasn't naive like he used to be; not every problem could be fixed with words or punches.

"This has gone on long enough," Naruto stated, his eyes filling with determination as he started walking toward where the battle was taking place.

"Where are you going, Naruto-kun?" Hinata asked her worried husband.

"I am going to put an end to all this senseless fighting," Naruto replied, giving his wife a sad smile, "I love you and never regret marrying you; you know that, right?"

"I do, I've always loved you," Hinata stated that she was starting to get a sinking feeling in her stomach.

"I know being married to me can be hard at times when I neglect you and our family, and I want you to know that I'm sorry," Naruto said before turning to walk away, but Hinata's hand grabbed his wrist.

"I have never once felt neglected by you. Sometimes I was disappointed because we couldn't spend time as a family, but I know you are doing your best as Hokage." Hinata said. If she didn't say this now, she would regret it later.

"Thank you," Naruto said simply as he kissed his wife and left in a burst of speed before he changed his mind about what he knew he had to do.

The son of the Fourth Hokage decided that, in the end, he would make the choice of who would die here. With a heavy heart, Naruto teleported into the battlefield, and with a Shoulder of Reaper Death Seal, it was over in a flash. As the Shinigami took his soul and that of ... the last thing Naruto saw was Hinata's sad eyes as he was devoured by the God of Death.

Demon Slayer Universe...

Naruto thought death would be like being reunited with his loved ones or being tortured by the Shinigami if you are a sinner, but he didn't get either of those. What he got was a pitch-black void.

It was very long time later that he would see a light, when he would be reborn in a new body with new parents.

His new mother was a blonde-haired woman with blue eyes that reminded him of Tsunade, and his father is a man with black hair and red eyes that remind him of Kurenai.

They were in a small room with a midwife helping the woman give birth. The new mother was covered in sweat but she gave off a happy glow at finally meeting her newborn son.

"Hey there, Naruto! Welcome to the world," the new mother said with a soft smile.

"What you're really naming the kid Naruto," Naruto's new father stated like an idiot, causing the woman to bury her fist in his stomach.

Naruto sweats at the sight; yes, his new mother is just like Tsunade, and his father is just like the pervy Sage.

"Yes, his name is Naruto. I saw it in a dream I had. He is going to be a special little boy who will change the world someday." The new mother stated.

They lived in a small village on a mountain top, with little interaction from the outside world. This world seemed normal, so Naruto chose to forget his past life and the tragedy that he left behind.

Naruto's mother's name is Tia, and his father is Issei. They have been married for about five years now and are trying to have a baby for three years.

They were about to give up hope when one day Tia became pregnant with him. Naruto guessed that his own reincarnation was the reason for Tia's pregnancy, as either one or both of his new parents might be infertile.

Fast Forward...

Japan [Mount Kumo]...

Nine years had passed, and Naruto couldn't be happier with his parents. His mother is kind, and his father is strict but fun.

Naruto had made some friends with some of the village children, something he wasn't able to really do in his past life until later in life.

"You can't catch me, you slowpoke," a girl with dark hair and pale skin exclaimed as she ran from the blonde.

"I will get you Suki," Naruto shouted, they were playing tag with Naruto as it.

"Yeah, you're not going to catch us," a boy with red hair said as he ran in the opposite direction from where Suki went.

"Yes, I will. You'll see, Zuko." Naruto stated as he decided to catch Suki first.

Tia watched her son playing with the other children while she talked to some villagers about some strange disappearances that had happened a few days earlier.

"Iroh has been missing for two days. His wife said he went out when he heard some noise one night and never returned." said an elderly woman.

"That's so tragic! I hope it wasn't a demon that got him." said a young woman who looked to be in her early twenties.

"It's a good thing we had managed to gather enough money to hire some demon slayers," Tia stated, wondering if she should have abandoned the village with her family but chances are they would be caught by the demon before making it too far.

They feared that it was the work of demons, but thankfully they had sent for some demon-slayers to come and investigate before the situation got out of hand.

Tia prays only for the safety of her son and husband, hoping that a demon slayer will come soon before it's too late.

Night-Time...

Naruto had come to love his peaceful life on the mountain tops with his family but the blonde should have known that happy times do not last forever.

There was a sudden shout in the night that woke the entire village. Then someone cried out "demons" before they heard a scream of pain, and then silence.

Naruto's parents didn't hesitate and grabbed their son, along with some supplies, before they rushed out of the house.

They knew that a demon was attacking the village at night because many people had gone missing.

Tia planned to abandon the village with her family while the demons attacked the village. It was a cowardly thing to do, but she didn't want to lose her husband and son.

During all this, Naruto looked around in panic because this once-normal world seemed to have its own monsters. He could smell the scent of blood and sense a bloodlust in the air that he hadn't felt in a long time.

As the family of three made their way out of the village, they came across a sight that shocked and horrified them all.

Suki, one of Naruto's closest friends, who was the daughter of his mother's best friend, was being eaten by something that looked humanoid but had fangs and a face that looked like a beast.

Suki's lifeless eyes looked directly at Naruto's, as if accusing him of not protecting her. He knew it was just his own imagination, but he couldn't help but feel guilty that he hadn't saved her. If he had a fraction of his old powers, he would have... This tragedy wouldn't have happened.

"Demon!" Naruto heard his mother exclaim from her arms where he was.

This was a mistake, as the monster turned its head toward the family of three and launched itself at them, with blood dripping from its face.

Naruto's father swiftly pushed Tia out of the way as the demon crashed into him, using his body as a shield and distraction so his wife and child could escape.

"Run now, don't let my death be in vain," Issei yelled as the demon ripped his arm off and started beating him with it while it laughed at the man in pain.

Tia with tears in her eyes did as her husband told her; she clutched Naruto in her arms. The mother ran as fast as her legs could go. She had long since stopped hearing her husband's screams of pain.

This made Tia burst into fresh tears because she knew her husband was dead. Naruto felt helpless as he was powerless. His body was that of a nine-year-old, maybe even stronger than the average one, but still just a nine-year-old.

Naruto swore to himself that if he got out of this alive with his mother he would train himself to be as strong as he was in his previous life no maybe even stronger.

Naruto heard a growl from nearby and another demon with red eyes and looked like a lizard mix with human came out of it, swiftly it slashed at Tia, who blocked it attack with her body to protect her son.

The mother was bleeding from her left side but she didn't show any signs of pain; instead, she continued running while bleeding out. The demon watched this in amusement as it attacked the mother again and again, causing deep wounds but not enough to kill the woman.

The demon keeps on playing this game with a woman until she collapsed with Naruto and no um's as she was still using her body as a shield to protect him from all attacks.

"Please Kami-sama save my son," Tia prayed, with blood leaking from her mouth and all over her body.

"Ha ha ha no one is coming to save you, you stupid bitch," the demon said mockingly. "Now be a good human and die so I can eat your son."

The monster said this so the woman would die in despair, knowing she didn't protect the one she wanted most.

As the demon approached the mother and son, there was a sudden movement in Naruto's eyes. Then, the demon's head fell off its body before it realized what had happened.

Naruto watched as the man who appeared wearing a Tengu mask and brandishing a sword, was a demon slayer.

"Thank you Kami-sama," Naruto's mother said as she took her last breath, knowing that her son would be safe with the demon slayers' arrival.

Fast Forward...

Naruto after witnessing all the tragedies that befall his village and losing his parents, couldn't help but be overwhelmed by despair.

The blonde-haired boy felt sadness and rage, then it all faded away as if it was never there, into an ice-cold determination and nothingness.

The man who saved him, Urokodaki Sakonji, was watching the emotion played on the toddler's face and he couldn't help but feel sad for him. In this cruel world, the demons target the weak humans and devour them. It is only the demons' fear of being devoured themselves that tips the balance in the humans' favor.

"Look kid, I'm going to take you to the nearby village and find someone who will take care of you," The tengu-masked man said.

"Teach me how to slay demons," Naruto said in an emotional voice, as he looked the mask-wearing man in the eye, with cool blue eyes.

"I don't think that's a good idea. You're far too young for any kind of training, and you just lost everything you knew. Take some time before trying to do anything drastic," Urokodaki said, trying to change the blonde-haired boy's mind.

"I don't care how hard the training is. I will finish it. Either you train me or I'll find someone else to do so," Naruto stated.

Urokodaki was about to reject the blonde's request for training, but as he looked over at the small boy, he realized that if he turned him down, the small blonde would look for trouble and get himself killed. So he came up with an idea.

"Fine, I'll accept you as my pupil. But first you have to prove that you have potential," Urokodaki stated as he watched the body nod its head.

Mount Sagiri...

Urokodaki took the blonde boy to a small hut. The Tengu-masked man looked around the hut. This is where he planned to retire after doing a few more missions for the Demon Slayer Corps.

"Okay, what I'm going to tell you is a method that the Demon Slayers use to gain greater strength in order to combat demons," the Water Hashira said.

Naruto gave the man his full attention as he started to explain the method the demon slayers use in order to empower themselves.

"Listen carefully, I'm gonna teach you about the Demon Slayer's method of total concentration breathing," The mask wearing man said.

"First, you must increase the amount of air your lungs can take in to hyper-oxygenate your blood cells and increase your heart rate," Urokodaki stated. "It will also result in an increase in your body temperature."

"That is the secret of the Demon Slayer's ability. By doing this, you'll gain abilities that far exceed those of a normal human, such as accelerated healing," the water Hashira concluded.

Naruto listened to the man's explanation and he kind of got what he was saying. However, Naruto didn't know if doing what the man said would really give someone superhuman strength. Nevertheless, he decided to give it a try.

Naruto had lived on a mountain all his life; therefore, he is very used to high altitudes with low concentrations of air. While he hasn't been training his body like he did in his former life, he has always helped his father with all the housework, so he is in better shape than someone his age would be.

Urokodaki watched in amazement as the blonde-haired boy, who had only given an explanation, managed to pull off the total-concentration breathing technique and throw a punch that caused a small indent to form on the ground.

Originally, the Tengu-masked man planned to give the blonde a week's worth of training before gently turning him down when he failed an impossible task. He would then give him something.

But after seeing his raw potential, he wouldn't turn away from the plan now, especially since the war with the demons is going so poorly for the demon slayers. This will be a great boon for them in the coming years. He could feel it in his bones.

"I'll accept you as my student, but know that the training I'm going to give you is going to be hellish," The water Hashira said.

"That's fine, as long as I can get stronger," Naruto replied. His voice was flat and without any emotion.

Urokodaki could only look at the blonde-haired boy, hoping that he was doing the right thing by bringing him into this life of misery and death.

Fast Forward...

Seven years have passed since the Tengu Mask Man began training Naruto. In that time, the blonde had surpassed his teacher's expectations to such a degree that there was nothing left to teach him.

The most amazing thing the blonde did was create his own breathing style based on water-breathing style, dubbing it "Breath of the Fire God".

Urokodaki had retired from being a demon slayer and focused all of his attention on training the blonde, knowing that he might one day be able to defeat the demon king, Muzan.

"The day has finally come," Naruto said, his voice as emotionless as ever.

"Yes, it has, and I couldn't be prouder of the progress you made in these seven long years," The former Hashira said.

Urokodaki glanced over to the blonde as he continued going through the stances of his newly developed breathing style.

Naruto had grown into a handsome young man, muscular and strong, with a body made for speed and endurance.

The young man grew out his hair, keeping it trimmed to avoid having it fall over his eyes.

The one thing that bothers the former Hashira is that Naruto had not shown any emotions since he found and saved him from the demon all those years ago.

The blonde would only focus on his training and becoming more powerful. At this point, Urokodaki was sure that Naruto was more powerful than he had been in his prime.

And his breathing style, which is similar to that of the Fire God, closely resembles the mask-wearing man's fire-breathing abilities, but it's even more powerful.

The flame he breathes produces doesn't go out like the usual breath of fire. Instead, it continues burning for days before it goes out on its own.

The blonde also had the ability to sense negative emotions from others, something that would be very helpful for hunting down demons.

"When do I leave to go to the demon slayer final selection examination to become an official demon slayer and get my own sword?" Naruto asked.

"The exams will be held in a week's time," Urokodaki stated. "In the meantime, you should use all the time you have left to prepare and say your goodbyes to the others."

The masked man was referring to another offense he committed under the name of Giyu Tomioka, Sabito, and Makomo.

Urokodaki trained them all in the style of water breathing, They were not quite on Naruto's level, but they all were promising students anyway.

That is why he plans to only send Naruto's to this year's Demon Slayer's exam while he will continue training the others so that they will be more prepared when he does send them.

Naruto continued training until he returned to the hut Urokodaki and the others were staying in.

"Brother Naruto, how was your training today?" Makomo asked with a smile as she looked up at the older teen.

"My training went fine," Naruto replied in a cold voice, but the small girl kept on smiling.

"That's good," Makomo said. "I was able to learn more about water breathing today. Urokodaki said that I am almost ready to take the final exam to become an official demon slayer."

Naruto just went into a meditative stance with his legs crossed as he sat on the floor and tuned out everything around him. The small girl pouted at what the blonde had done, but she didn't interrupt him and just went back to play with the others.

Giyu and Sabito shook their heads at the interaction they couldn't figure out why Makomo was so keen on befriending the emotionless blonde teen.

Urokodaki also looked on sadly. Naruto had not let anyone in since he found him and saved him, after his village and everything he loved were destroyed.

The masked man knew that he should have tried harder to get through to the blonde, but the war against the demons was not going well on the demon-slayer's side, and they needed a secret weapon to help tip the scales in their favor.

Instead of focusing on helping Naruto emotionally get over what happened to him, Urokodaki had to focus on making him more powerful so that he could one day destroy all the demons that threatened the humans.

Urokodaki watched the blonde meditate and prayed to Kami for forgiveness of what he had done and for someone to one day heal the blonde's heart.
