Choosing our Game Engine

Unity vs Unreal:
For visual novels, Unity would be my go to choice. The Asset Store is filled with visual novel systems and you can jumpstart prototypes in just a few weeks. Yet their policy changes on the royalty system, along with a fee per downloads showed how the takeover by a shareholder director board changed their focus to profit first at the detriment of the quality of the engine. The Engine is now a cash cow that has no future in the next 10 years. I believe their lack of focus on innovation, along with the rapid pace of AI surge will make them obsolete. When you use Unity, you quickly see that it is divided by packages and separate systems that do not always work together. In contrast Unreal Engine's architecture is more seamless and professional. It pains me to turn my back on an Engine that I used to focus all my energy on. I will take the hard path and learn C++ again. This will make the development of my video games slower at first, but rewarding in the end. We already delivered a first Unreal game, I am confident in finishing the next one as well.
