Ah I forgot to share this here! I was working on this in my Discord last weekend and was posting WIPs there and getting feedback as I went along. And now it's posted to my socials and I've updated all my OCs ref sheets, but I forgot I should also say it here for anyone who only follows me on here and isn't in the Discord but likes knowing things about my OCs.
I was just answering an ask on Tumblr about this, but it was really important to me to show not just a range of body types and features, but a range of trans men's bodies. Some have top and bottom surgery, some have neither, some have been on t, some haven’t been on T, those who’ve been on T don’t all have the same reaction to it (because just like in real life not everyone will have a lot of bottom growth, not everyone will grow lots of facial or body hair), some just have top and no bottom surgery, some have hysterectomy scars, some have body hair, some have no body hair, some have facial hair and some don’t, some didn’t keep their nipples after top surgery, some have joint scars, some have t-anchor scars. And all of them are still men and equally just as trans as each other.
And I’ve seen people say they don’t personally like when people drawing unrealistic top surgery scars, but not all drawings are meant to be realistic. I don’t think anyone’s going to look at my fantasy OCs and think this is what real scars look like. It’s just for fun. I think it’s really fun to draw different shaped top surgery scars, and have the shape of the scars represent something about the character. And I don’t see the harm in trans men using art to draw fantastical top surgery scars when, in my opinion, quite a few of them would change their top surgery scar shape if they could. I don't think drawing fantasy surgery scars harms anyone, I'm not claiming this is medically accurate.
I think it’s just common to see trans men represented as skinny twinks. And there’s nothing wrong with trans men who are thin, who aren’t curvy, but when that’s the majority of fictional representation that’s how we end up where we are where people think plus size trans men or older trans men don’t exist, or can’t believe that a trans man who is tall and muscular and hairy is actually trans. And I hate the idea of ‘passing’. None of my OCs are 'passing’ more than the others, they’re all men who look like the men they want to be. So I really wanted to make sure there was a range of body types and ages.
I love how I drew Arden, I love my big hairy, kinda fat man. (I use fat as a positive word and accurate description of his body type, it is only an insult if you use it at one). And I love hawthorn, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trans man character who has no top surgery but because of being on testosterone has hair growing on his breasts, and I tried to convey with the drawing that his breasts are sagging due to his age (which is nothing to be ashamed off, it’s a normal part of aging). The darker/thicker hair on satin’s lower legs, Ambrose’s little a-cups, Cassius’ ornate top surgery scars and nipple piercings, Arden’s tummy and chest hair, johann’s stretch marks, valentine’s little heart tattoos and heart shaped areola, Dmitri’s lack of nipples and slightly muscular build from his work, Ellis’ thick cock and heavy balls this man has the thicker dick of all of them and you know if he’s a 'daddy’ he has to have a dad-bod, Hawthorn’s sagging hair chest, Lysander’s ribs and bruises from his leg brace and moles, Lucien’s muscles (I used to be so scared of drawing muscles), Orpheus’ eczema, Silk’s joined top surgery scars (which he got because someone in my discord mentioned they have those scars but have never seen a character with joint scars before and representation is important to me), trying to show Amaros has some muscle but it’s under a layer of fat and he’s very soft to cuddle. There’s things I love about all their designs that I hope people notice and like too.
The nude version of course can’t be posted to Tumblr due to them not allowing nudity or sexual art, but you can see it on my Toyhouse page under each of the character’s profiles, and on my Bluesky. I've updated all the reference sheets for my OCs that are on my fanworks guide and Art Fight to include the censored/clothed versions of these drawings.
Wah that got long, I’m just really happy with that drawing. Drawing explicit art has got me so much better an anatomy in such a short space of time and I had a lot of fun drawing the new height chart.
