Full Length Reaction Guide
We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync. Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen. Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. 2025-06-16 23:01:02 +0000 UTCExcellent point on Pudgey picking up on the importance of Lopez - this isn't some half assed show where the characters can just hotwire the high tech cruiser. If Lopez hadn't been there, they would have all died in the Tachi's airlock, unable to get in.

2025-06-16 20:08:24 +0000 UTCit was 6 stealth ships with a crew of 50-100 soldiers (each ship has 15 breaching pods) the donnager is huge and has a 2000 crew but that includes everyone, getting attacked by few hundret soldiers who are highly trained trying to only go to the bridge is a fight the donnager couldnt win. especially with these ships having 3 times as much railguns as the donnager. and even with that huge of an advantage they could not overtake the donnager and lost all 6 ships (1 to torpedos, 2 to railgun 1 to PDC and the last 2 were to close when the ship exploded) so the martian crew was to over confident, did not take them serious enough

The introduction of Mars was so well done last episode, featuring the quote about the dreamers and now in this episode highlighting their military loyalty and service. Earth might always come first, but from this moment on, I had to choose Mars as my faction. I had the same reaction as Spartan; Lt Lopez grew on me fast as well. Such a great character, perfect Martian. And yes, Spartan, you, wondering how the MCRN Donnager is going down, is exactly the feeling everyone should take away from it. It should be impossible – and they gave a lot of little comments on why during the fight. And Pudgey made a great comment right at the end – Lopez adding them to the controls of the MCRN Tachi was key. Him ending up like this is just a necessary step for the entire story to unfold. Much respect for that to both of you! I'm mega impressed with what you are taking away from each of the episodes so far – it kind of looks like as if you are doing this kind of activity as a full-time job... ;)

Get close to a moon or a planet, get the speed and angle of your ship correct, and cut the engines. Ideally you have enough speed to just miss the atmosphere and let the gravity of the planet "slingshot" you back into space. Current space agencies use this trick by planning routes near celestial objects to get speed boosts and save fuel. It is worth searching for a short YouTube video about "gravity assists" to help visualize what happens.

Fun fact: the Expanse actually started out as a table-top role-playing game that the writers Ty and Frank created with their friends. One of their friends was unable to continue playing so they killed his character off in the game and that character was Shed! I love that they incorporated a lot of the original game into the books and the show! So sad that we only got Shed for 4 episodes because he was one of my favorites at the start. This was the episode I was waiting to see your reaction to!! Love all the Holden love and I appreciate that you notice the little details about him like him not going for the gun but checking on the Martian soldier instead, it DOES say a LOT about his character. I really grew fond of Lopez (the Martian soldier on the ship with our crew) as well in the episode. I love his talk with Holden about earth and Mars. Also, I just really love all the space battles and how all the ships look, just so freaking cool! Thanks for your reaction! Can’t wait for more!!!

Complex characters, excellent effects, political intrigue, relationship drama, epic space battles and lots of mysteries to solve. It's like a detective story set in space.

And damn, you guys are really picking up on a lot, I don't think you missed any of the big/small hints in this episode, its making it hard to comment without spoilers 😁 One thing I can say - some of the stuff you saw doesn't kick in till several seasons from now. Re the real Bizi Bitiko, the guy you saw Miller first first follow up on - he was a Sling Shot racer, basically a Belter sport where they fly a small ship on a unpowered ballistic orbit through the outer planet systems. The only way they can speed up is via a gravity assist slingshot around a planet, the closer the better. He got a little to close and burnt up in Jupiter's atmosphere. Loving the Holden love, he's the real deal, an actual Paladin. Glad to see you appreciate that Amos is more than just a thug as well. They are all quite complex characters that we get to see unfold. Loving the enthusiasm for the battle scenes, they are epic, lots more to come. That OLED will be making them even better to watch. RIP Shed, he was with us for to short a time 😭

Just one note, the guy talking to the Mormons on Tycho Station is not working for Mars. It is suggested in the conversation he works for the OPA...but to say more would be spoilers :P

2025-06-16 01:28:54 +0000 UTCNo spoilers: Sorry if someone already mentioned this and we have seen it a few times, but we see like a liquid get injected through their seats at times, it should be considered almost like a "magic" scifi juice that helps them be able to stay clearminded and be able to take the higher G- force that the ships are putting people on. Also, with the gravity on the ships, most ships are using thrust from the rockets to generate the ~1 g of gravity to replicate normal gravity. We saw it a bit when the donnager lost power to its thrust, how everyone started floating and needed to use their magnetic boots to stay on the ground. With the weapons being shot, think of it like kinetic or explosive. The kinetic are basically just large bullets being shot through the ships, attempting to hit important things in the ship to disable it. The bullets will pretty easily pierce the hulls of the ships, enough holes, and they will not be able to maintain a breathable atmosphere, basically like we saw when Naomi, Alex, and Amos were in that room. So they have to basically patch holes. That shot that took out Shed most likely went all the way through the ship, so when Naomi was looking through, she was basically seeing several levels of the ship through the holes. The explosive weapons, like torpedos, are usually not used within a certain range because if you do blow up the ship, the debris from the ship could damage and even take out your ship as it gets shot out in just about every direction. You heard them mention in this episode about how they are now closer, and they are switching to PD (Point defense- basically the machine gun type kinetic weapons) for closer combat. I'm really enjoying the back and forth and guessing what people are up to and what is going on!

Also I started reading the books a few months ago and was shocked to see how closely they followed the book with the scene when they were covering the holes. Down to the detail where Naomi used the binder to cover hers. The biggest departure being that Holden was with them at the time.
