Walter coughing in the waiting room after Francesca says gotcha is great

It's crazy to think that Kim and Jimmy are responsible not only for killing the legacy of Howard, but the legacy of HHM as a company. If Jimmy hadn't been indirectly responsible for Chuck's and Howard's death, HHM wouldn't have had to downsize and change their name. Which makes their sins all the more egregious.

The final season was released in two parts. Episodes 1 to 7. Then 6 weeks later, episodes 8 to 13. So episode 7 was more of a "season finale" and episode 8 was like a "season premiere." We had to wait 6 weeks to find out what happened after Howard was shot!

Emmy

I blame Kim more than Saul for Howard's death. She's the one who really pushed to take him down, Saul tossed the idea around and just seemed like he wanted to screw with him with petty pranks. But Kim wanted to end his career with her elaborate scheme. While I don't view Howard as a saint, he did allow himself to get in cahoots with Chuck's vendetta against Jimmy, he didn't deserve to get killed. He cared about his career and always tried to do the right thing in spite of his flaws and now unfortunately being at the wrong place at the wrong time due to Kim and Jimmy's elaborate scheme, got him killed.

Joe Lazarus

It's only a small detail missed in the grand scheme of this episode but when they are patting down Gus and he flinches its because he was only just shot and its very painful. But he's trying to hide it as best he can to make it look like nothing has happened. That entire scene he was probably in considerable discomfort but had to stay poker faced.

It's the same for Nacho too. He was a bad guy who got himself too deep into the game for his own good then wanted out. The show does an amazing job letting us root for these flawed characters because they aren't just bad guy one and bad guy two they feel like real people with real problems. I guess Nacho's dad sees Mike no different from how we see Victor.

AlrightThere

It’s also kind of crazy to think that in episode 1 we meet Jimmy the poor public defender arguing with Mike at the parking lot toll booth about how many stickers Jimmy needs that will make the difference between a few dollars of parking costs…. To Mike supervising the cleaning of Jimmy’s apartment, removing all traces of Howard, and Jimmy in the final scenes living life as a corrupt and lonely multi millionaire. I suppose that’s the show 😃. How Jimmy became Saul and how Mike became so important to Gus’ operations and the tenuous bond between them.

I think it was the baseball game that spurred Mike to go talk to Nacho’s dad. - in the background the announcers talk about a pinch runner coming in because someone else made a mistake. (This is all in US Netflix subtitles, I didn’t see it on your screen) for anyone who knows baseball, there can be an analogy drawn between Nacho and the pinch runner. Someone who did not expect to play being brought in unexpectedly to a bigger role. And the pitcher throwing to first, that means the opposing team is trying to get that pinch runner out. This is a very minor detail that only baseball fans would understand but nothing, not even background chatter, is left to chance in this show. - I don’t think Mike went to Mr. Varga because of his thoughts for his granddaughter, but because of his thoughts of Matty. Again very US-specific, and maybe it’s Father’s Day weekend that makes me think of this, but a bond between a father and an adult son, is often kept through baseball. Enjoying the sport, watching together, etc, heck there have even been movies where this is the central theme (Field of Dreams comes to mind), where the father-son bond is kept strong through baseball. And watching baseball is often very passive, you don’t have to pay attention to everything you can have a few beers and chat about whatever and still pay attention to the game at the same time. I guess what I’m saying is baseball brought to Mike’s mind the father-son bond, and with the history of Matty being a really good guy who got sucked into corruption and killed, Mike had to make sure Mr. Varga knew Nacho was not a bad guy, “not like them.” But at the same time Mr. Varga doesn’t distinguish between good criminals and bad criminals. You’re either in the game or you’re not, and all he wanted was for Nacho to not be in the game.

Mike and Nacho’s dad… A corrupt father with an innocent son talking to an innocent father with a corrupt son.

Tony Dalton was in the pic of him in the snow, and they obviously had to cut him out lol.

The cold open from season 5 “Quite a Ride”, Saul is scrambling and packing to leave town, Francesca is shredding documents. Saul gives her the card of some attorney and says “Tell them Jimmy sent you”. That was a little hint of how we would feel, I believe, when this day finally came. Jimmy is gone.

Tim Martin

the two realest mfs in this show are Nacho's Dad and Howard.

Nick Wright

A fun fact is the photos used at Howard's memorial are actual photos taken from Patrick Fabian's (Howard's actor's) social media accounts

I would say that this episode feels like the end of one chapter or the prequel part of the show. At the end of the episode we are now at the point where Jimmy was just before he meets Walt as Saul Goodman. From this point on the show feels totally different. Should be good to see the reactions and how you feel about the shows last episodes.

Connor W

I would live to see you guys rank characters in this universe.

Matt Flynn

It's a little bittersweet when we get that transition to the truly realized Saul Goodman waking up next to a prostitute in his mansion. Jimmy Megill only existed to Kim at this point, even Rich making a point to correct himself when he called him Jimmy instead of Saul. Kim is right, together they are poison, but alone they are okay but there is no more Jimmy without Kim and Saul without Jimmy is absolutely not okay, as we see. Thinking about popping on a random episode from season 2 will feel like an entirely different show.

Steven

I think we all consider Mike to be somewhat of a Neutral Good relatively speaking, until he speaks with an actual decent man are we reminded that Mike is still a killer in the cartel. We know his backstory and we justify it all because we compare him to evil people like Lalo or Gus but at the end of the day Nacho's dad see's him no differently than any other gang member and he is right. Mike sees it as justice, when it's really just revenge and more killing. I love the shot of the fencing showing Mike being the one in the cage and Nacho's father being the one who is free.

Steven

Definitely the first time hearing them say I love you to each other. The writing is so good to me that we've gone 6.5 seasons showing us how much they love each other without ever needing them to say it outright, just for us to only hear it when it's essentially meaningless to the situation. Bittersweet

Steven

Much like Breaking Bad, they do not fumble the ending. They put a bow on it all!

J_Fley .

Yeah I agree. Someone was murdered in their apartment for crying out loud. But please romanticize Lalo and Gus some more. They’re both fine, upstanding people.

Matt DSM

Kim and jimmy finally hit the wall. Kim was honest in admitting that she liked it (it reminds me of Walt saying I did it because I liked it). No more bullshit excuses. Kim separately from Jimmy probably could have been on the straight and narrow, but there was that streak in her she learned from her mother that she "could get away with things" and her job while fantastic as a partner in a law firm, was just humdrum. Jimmy provided that living on the edge craziness that sparked Kim's interest. I think about Kim probably not wanting to be like her mother (I had a father who was a bit like Kim's mother), and I told myself I would never be like that, but then there was this side of me that liked the danger. If we haven't healed from past wounds, we do repeat the same behavior even when we don't want to. The difference between Jimmy and Kim is that Kim did finally see it and Jimmy while wanting to see it in some way, pretty much lives in denial. I was thinking about Nacho's dad and his expecting Nacho to be dead at some point. The last conversation Nacho had with his dad - you could tell Nacho knew and his dad picked up on it that it would be their last. But there is always hope that the relationship can be back to normal if Nacho could get out of working for the cartel (which is pie in the sky thinking). They will hunt you down, it happens all the time.

Lyn Hurst

That scene between Mike and Nacho's dad is one of the most powerful in the entire universe in the way it captures so many themes. It emphasizes the conversation Mike had in Season 1 about the difference between a “good criminal” and a “bad criminal,”. Mike believes there's a difference between good and bad criminals—he thinks that being honest, keeping your word, and having a code makes you more respectable. But in this scene, he's confronted by Nacho's dad, someone who truly is honest and good. He holds on to the values that Mike holds onto so strictly, but actually as an honest citizen and not in the criminal world. Also the scene shows a powerful contrast: Mike, a corrupt father, with an innocent son Matty, and an innocent father with a corrupt son (Nacho and his dad). Mike was pulled into the game out of grief and vengeance for his son's death. But like Nacho's dad says: "revenge, it never ends", which is apparent as this time Mike still seeks vengeance, this time on the Salamanca's, Nacho's "killers".

Jasper

This reaction was hilarious and cringe at the same time. Everything they did pissed you off. Going on with their life "WTF"...quit being a lawyer "WTF" ....Kim leaving Jimmy "OMG why would she do that" If they as much as scratched their nose (or failed to scratch their nose), and you guys would go off 😂

Andrew Ramos

This episode has my favorite Gustavo Fring scene in the whole BB universe, not an epic speech, not him brutaly killing someone or dodging bullets but just him enjoying himself. I won't overexplain it since you guys pretty much nailed it on the reaction. Instead I like to think that it recontectualizes Lalo's death form last episode, a lot of people have a problem with it even Spartan was like okay that was cool but idk. For me Lalo and Gus's last shootout was never about the epicness of it or who was gonna live or die, we already know that. Instead it's more important to think about how it changes Gus's character. In the end Gus understands that he was not in control of that situation at all and he got so lucky to end up on top of that and kill Lalo. Just pure luck. And if he is to win this game, he cannot allow himself to be as careless as he was with Lalo. Gus in this scene is deciding to finally finish killing that part of himself. He could very well forget about his revenge and live a happy life, but he won't allow himself to do it because of what he just lived. In the end this is Lalo's true victory. The killing of Gustavo Fring, the human.

Pablo

Your reaction to Howard's wife is kinda funny. We only ever got one out of context scene with her before and they were married a long time. They were having marital problems, but that doesn't make her a bad person. I'm sure Howard wasn't perfect in that relationship either. They both still loved each other. Good people get divorced all the time. Sometimes people just grow apart.

Evan

Wow I've never thought about it that way. But your right I bet gus held that last look trying to get something out of Mike's eyes.

Pablo

Y’all are like the only reactors I’ve ever seen understand that last Gus scene right away

Walt

Some of the best is still yet to come. IMO.

Tim Martin

The photos at the memorial of Howard are actually just private pictures of the actor Patrick Fabian :D he seems like such a nice guy

ynnk99

When Gus looked at Mike I like to think of what Eladio just said. Gus sees a little hate in Mikes eyes and they have that understanding that a little is ok
