Full Length Reaction Guide
We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync. Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen. Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. This show is intelligent and complex... like DARK... with politics and drama and incredible characters... like Game of Thrones... and it is the most scientifically accurate sci-fi ever made... based on real physics and set in the near future. Humans haven't magically created artificial gravity or faster-than-light travel or unlimited resources, and those realities are a big part of the story. You will LOVE this show.

In that case, Ceres is similar to Aria's Omega station, very blue-collar with a high criminal element. Just fyi the guy that's tortured on earth is part of the OPA group, you'll hear their name, but they said he's in a radical faction. It's amazing how well they use their budget and have such top notch visual effects. The space shit is awesome. The cinematography is also fantastic and is very playful with long one-shot takes and many perfect rack-focus shots. It's very explorative and reminds me of game design legend Hideo Kojima's style of filmmaking.

2025-06-05 10:48:55 +0000 UTCIt's BEGUN!! Amazing. Love the new setup you guys have too btw. A few quick notes Yes, Space Sex would be epic, Spartan is right. The mass effect vibe is there for sure. When you see those boots with a red light activate, those are magnetized boots, they use it when they're otherwise in zero G, so they can walk around not float. That white drug pumped in during a high G burn helps strengthen their bodies at those absurd Gs, if you ever went on that spinning ride at an amusement park, you know that sensation when it starts to go very fast? Like an elephant is sitting on your chest? It's similar to that but vastly worse. In the show they often hit 10 Gs or more. Which means if you weigh 80kg on earth, you'd feel like you weighed 800 kg during the burn. And yeah, you can imagine being stuck on a ship for months at a time, out in the deep black oblivion of space, it would send a lot of people mad. What if you wanted to go home one day? Well, too bad. You can leave if you want, go float in space until you run out of oxygen, but other than that, you're trapped. Soldiers on submarines experience this effect too here on earth all the time. But you've already picked up a lot of details, great reaction.

You mentioned the fandom and yes, in my experience The Expanse fandom is one of the nicer ones out there - no toxic gatekeeping or infighting, they just genuinely want to welcome new fans and discuss the show, both books and tv series. And unusually no wars between book fans and tv adaption fans. Probably because the book writers were heavily involved in the show as well. Its a really good adaption.

Space looks great on this show already, but OLED just makes it top tier. I am also really liking these uncut reaction. Super stoked I get to watch the entire series again this way!

So all that CGI was the same level of work as the first three seasons. What Amazon did let them do though, is use their render farm, so they could render in higher detail faster.

Pretty much every scene in The Expanse means something and is referenced later, stuff is said in S1E1 that plays out in S5. Like the theories you're coming up with. Even things that flash by on screens and peoples phones has meaning and plot importance. If it seems confusing and unconnected at first - you're in good company, Expanse writers are very much in show, not tell and we only know what the characters know, which at the start is bugger all :) Re "The Juice", the stuff the Cant crew got injected with when they we're doing the "Flip and Burn" - high gravity maneuvers put a lot of stress on the human body the juice is a cocktail of drugs to support their cardio vascular system, prevent blood clots and strokes, etc. So, whens the next one? 😁 nb. 100% agree with Spartan re watching on a OLED, makes all the difference with darker hidef shows like The Expanse. Good timing. Also the sound track for The Expanse is just beautiful.

Also, Ceres (pronounced like series) is technically considered a dwarf planet, and it orbits between Mars and Jupiter. In the show it's been made into a station that is controlled by Earth but is the home to Belters. That's just a basic explanation for now, since the show will give you more information. I'm glad you guys are watching with subtitles on. It will make it much easier to follow some of the Belter scenes when they throw in the occasional slang word. Even if you don't know exactly what it means, seeing how the word is spelled and the context it's used in is usually enough to give you a good idea.

It will take a few episodes to get your bearings and get used to all the characters but then the show really settles into itself. Buckle up, should be a great time. I cant wait for the next one! Also, XO stands for executive officer. An XO is the second-in-command and is typically responsible for the management of day-to-day operations on a ship. Dont worry about understanding the Belter dialogue. It will come in time.

Belter is mostly based in English but has influences from the major languages of people who originally went to the belt. Check out “Belter Creole” on expanse.fandom.com R.I.P. Mike! Miller (the cop) is on Ceres Station, a space station built into a large asteroid in "the belt" which refers to the asteroid belt, a large source of materials for the inner planets (Earth and Mars), which is mostly home to belters. The Canterbury is an ice hauler. Holden (the XO) and his crew work in the belt hauling ice that they have broken off of comets or asteroids back to Ceres Station, which they were on their way back to when they got the distress call from Julie's ship.

But I watched the first three seasons and found the show just "fine" but also largely just meh. Just has too much against it for me to really enjoy it. It doesn't hurt that the over hyping of it is INSANE and likening it to actually great shows or even to mass effect (this one bothers me the most because absolutely not) does the show zero favors imo. The threat of the walking dead being on the channel lessens my negative feelings about the expanse winning so I guess that is a plus. Although with severance going on right now I'm beyond happy regardless!

Not only does it show a story of mankind's history as they expand into space, but it also changes from time to time as the show progresses. To the point where in season 5 every single episode has some changes in the opening. Unfortunately the opening doesn't play for much of season 1. But once it plays every episode, I always try to see if I can spot any changes.
