The biology question isn't really a problem with time travel already established. In quantum mechanics super rare random movements of all the smallest particles in an object can lead to very improbable outcomes. Like rolling a million six-sided die and having them all come up on a one. For example, the gun not going off 3 times. One possibility: alll the atoms in the gunpowder got "lucky" and just happened to be aligned perfectly to not trigger each other quantum mechanically. One in a trillion trillion trillion or more, but guaranteed if needed to not cause a paradox with the causallity. With Elizabeth and Charlotte they share enough DNA + random quantum effects in the atoms causing perfect mutations to the DNA code. Unimaginably rare like the gun not going off. But still guaranteed with fundemental physics plus time travel conspiring to complete the loop. Now...the chicken and the egg of the whole thing... that paradox is the wild part for me.

Perhaps Im missing something but regarding Charlotte and Elizabeth, I dont think there is anything inherently impossible about coincidentally (and with the correct partner) recreating the exact same set of DNA like your mother had. It's just extremely unlikely. But technically should be able to happen. And they cant even "mess it up" so to say, because they obviously do co-exist. The result is suddenly the premise. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

I was confused about the DNA thing but for some reason I didn't think about the fact that DNA itself and the way it's coded could be a bootstrap so thanks for that lol

Spartan's so salty at being out played haha, well done Pudgey! It does make sense within the context of the show though. Charlotte and Elizabeth are both bootstrap paradoxes, you've already had a bunch of them just not with DNA, Tanhause's book writing, the contents of the letter that Michael wrote, neither had an author and the contents were just repeated and copied around in a loop with no origin. The only difference now is that it's writing in DNA code instead of writing that's in a book or a letter. No different really. It doesn't make sense because its a paradox, but neither do any of the others, and that's the whole point and why they are called paradoxes. Charlotte gets 50% of her DNA from Elizabeth and 50% from Noah, Elizabeth gets 50% of her DNA from Charlotte and 50% from Peter. Just the exact arrangement means they both alternate a different 50% which will be some combination of Peter and Noah's to alternate two arrangements as two different people. It's obviously pretty mental and wacky but in terms of the logic of a time travel show it does make sense, its just highly improbable they'd inherit the particular genes from either parent each time to be the same two people each time around the loop and not morph into clones over iterations. But since it's already happened that way, it pretty much means its the only thing that can happen. They are both effectively full siblings, with Peter and Noah as parents, and with differing combinations of Peter and Noah's DNA, and are alternating each generation which set of sibling DNA they are, one with more of Peter's, one with more of Noah's, it's just so arranged that each generation the introduction of either father and whatever DNA they have is able to produce the other's complete DNA set but there's nothing logically that dictates that can't happen.

This episode was well done, but confusing for sure. Jonas and Martha both break me. Neither of them has any say in all the awful things going on they cannot prevent nor change in any way. Jonas begging his dad not to leave last episode and having to go through his killing himself again and then this episode begging Martha not to leave. Too much. I feel sad for both of them. I realize it is a crazy incestual bandwagon they are on, but when they met and when they were first together, they knew nothing of this. Crazy watching the dark matter turn into the God particle once it was freed from the barrels. I am guessing marinating in radioactive material made it stronger also made things more haywire.

Agnes betrayed Claudia and got her killed by giving Noah the newspaper article to lead him to her to kill her, Claudia told her to give it to herself iirc, but she gave it to Noah isntead. Only Claudia knew that'd happen and planned for it, but Agnes revealed her desire to return to Adam earlier this season.

Remember back in episode one when Hannah meets older Jonas for the first time, there is a really strange scene of Jonas staring at the floor for like 6 whole seconds, obviously he is doing that because he is remembering Martha's death, these kinds of details are what makes the show so much fun on a rewatch. Also, you will get all your answers on how exactly it's possible that Charlotte and Elizabeth are both each others mothers in season 3, you'll just have to wait to see how they wrap that all up. Season three is easily the most confusing season, just a heads up. They have a lot to wrap up so it moves quickly, still a brilliant season that wraps everything up but expect to be confused for a while.
