Dark 1x8 Reaction

Regarding the concept of time travel, you can imagine it in dark as being one timeline, and the people are only transiting between different points in that timeline. And to understand better the passage, I always picture it like that the present isn't 2019 actually. The present is in the 80s, and then 53 is the past, and 2019 the future. We only assume that 2019 is the present because the series started telling the story from there, but for me that's why they are always talking about the future having consequences in the past. Mikel literally exists in the present (80s) because he was born in the future.

Geovane Rodrigues

Spartan is correct. The generally accepted understanding of time travel is that things can't be changed. Anything that has happened will happen the same way again in a loop that has repeated and will repeat an unknown/infinite number of times. If you look up the grandfather paradox, it's a thought experiment where someone questions what happens if you go back in time and kill your own grandfather before he has children. The problem is, if you did, your father and yourself wouldn't exist, so you wouldn't be there to go back and kill him, so he could never have been killed. I posted on an earlier episode the same logic about Jonas not taking Mikkel back to 2019 with him. If he did, then Mikkel wouldn't have grown up to become his father, Jonas wouldn't have been born and wouldn't have been there to go back and get him. The hooded man reacted quite strongly to Jonas suggesting he was going to take Mikkel back, as that's the way he would always have reacted. It's an example of what the author mentioned in this episode, where humans like to think they are in control, but if they fully understood the situation from an outside perspective like we do, they would know that whatever they do won't change anything and is what they have always done.

I feel like Spartan's been cooking every episode, but Pudgey's definitely stepped it up for this one. Great observation regarding the colour symbolism! 🔴 Also, I love your discussions/disagreements at the end of each ep - they make me laugh so much 😂

Spartan is on the right track here Pudgey, sorry but the everything all at once theory does have limits. Time being circular doesn’t also mean time is malleable.

Literally posted a comment about Ulrich confronting Helge in the hospital/clinic before following him to the cave 2 seconds before I saw it click for both of you. Those realizations are one of the things that make this show so great. You can always go watch parts of past episodes and interpret them completely differently knowing what you know now.

Young Ulrich reminding Old Egon of (Old) Ulrich when he met Young Egon

Divinerights

I already know the scene for that thumbnail lol

PIG

Oooof this episode is the big one, Ultich is easily the most tragic character in dark

Sean Carroll

This is the one I’ve been waiting on
