Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

We hope you enjoy the video!

Dark 1x3 Uncut Reaction

Comments

After halfway through this episode I have the same thoughts as you, they are getting more and more confused about who is who. With dark you definitely need to get some notes with the names or just like you said check out the DARK website it helps a lot

Josip Buretić

One of the best if not the best casting ever

Josip Buretić

You guys should check out Netflixs' own DARK website. You just enter what season and episode you are on, and the website gives you a full spoiler free family tree. It is soooo useful https://dark.netflix.io/en/family-tree

Anna Lorentzen

They knocked the casting in this series out of the park. It's crazy how the actors for the 1986 characters look like their 2019 counterpart.

Golladan

Catching up on reactions but yes like others have said the website is a resource and try to remember your last names. I had a whole mini notebook my first watch through. its harder for you guys because you cant pause or rewind like I did a lot of the time. You guys are picking up a lot either way!

Julie

I know I’m playing catch up and you guys are a couple episodes past this already but as a first time watcher I wanna drop these two theories here in case they’ve already been revealed by the time I’m caught up with you guys. 1. Jonas’s father is Michael and the kid who time travelled back is Mikkel.. crackpot theory but maybe he never comes back to the present and somehow grows up to be Michael, & Nurse Ines just raises him as a son? 2. I think the hooded man from the first two episodes might be an adult version of Mads, Ulrich’s missing brother, and maybe the boys body from episode 1 is a red herring or a duplicate somehow.

Jonny Rey

Big brain Spartan is on the case!!!

Paul Walker

Awesome job guys. Spartan is definitely getting his mind in the right space for the show. You’re both doing great. Don’t worry about mixing up or not remembering faces and names here and there. They throw a lot of characters at you, and not only one version but now you are dealing with two different looking versions with the same name. It takes a while to remember who everyone is and correlate them all together. Just hope you guys are enjoying the show, it really does get bonkers and is one of the most rewarding shows to watch as far as time investment and intelligent writing. The theme song hits me in the feels, brings me back to when I binged this for the first time. I wish I could wipe my mind of this series and watch it again for the first time.

Sean O'Neill

Oh man, I wish I had known about that when I watched it

Betty Alice

Damn! Can i just say; that website is amazingly well executed!

Petteri Ahlberg

Ah, I was just about to write that too :D And the Pfennig coin, which Erik and the dead boy wore as a necklace, is also old. Back then, our German currency was the „Deutsche Mark“ and „Pfennig“. Since 2002, we have „Euro“ and „Cent“, the currency used by most countries in the European Union. So both the Raider bar and the Pfennig coin are symbols of the past.

AkiZzu

love how invested Spartan is in the show from the begining. I was a old supporter here and he was never like that on the past show. nice to see!

Victor Radoi

3 episodes in a week is some treat :)

Victor Radoi

Don't worry guys, it's perfectly normal to not yet recognize names/faces, you are doing great anyway. 💛 I agree with others in the comments, feel free to use the website to help you with faces, names and even relationships. I would recommend to only select the episode you have already seen, it is not meant to be used while watching the episode, otherwise it can contains spoilers. (E.g. use 1x3 family tree during 1x4 episode)

Vaelin

50 points deducted from House Pudgey for saying Inspector Tiedemann was Ulrich Nielsen's father 😅. It's OK, its a lot of names to keep track of. But Spartan's instincts knew that wasn't his father, even without knowing the surnames. Love all the theories so far in the intros and outros!

imperial

Wow spartan is very much on the right track with his theories. He’s already thinking about this show the right way

Nick Trumbo

I agree with a previous commenter. The website serves as a great refresher pre or even post episode. I used it when I watched the first time just to make sure I knew all the information about each character that is known up to that point It does feel kind of like GoT in the sense that you’re meeting a lot of characters in the beginning. And now you’re seeing some of them in the 80s. That’s why I’m glad they did those side by side shots to help viewers keep track. You managed to figure out who everyone was in GoT so I’m confident you will with Dark. For now, just strap in and enjoy this crazy ride.

Jeff

Wonderful reaction guys!!! It was nice to get the montage at the end, and see all the pieces come together

K

yup they are! and if there's anything you miss that you weren't meant to, people will let you know if you need to know, or not if its meant to be a mystery. Pls S&P ignore anyone who has already watched 10 reactions to it and forgets what it was like watching the first time :D Dark community as a whole knows what a mind fk it is and expects you to miss stuff so hope you'se never take my comments as anything but trying to be helpful! I really really hate the pressure some people's comments put on about this show, just enjoy it :)

lemmy

They said they'd look at the site in the outro, but its also important not to stress them out and make them think feel everyone's going to be getting on their case in the comments for not spotting someone or recognizing who someone is. We all missed stuff on our first watch so comment feels a little antagonistic and like its gonna pile on pressure on them watching it. Would rather they enjoy it tbh. :P

lemmy

it's totally ok to be confused, you're doing great

Minerva Ravenclaw

Last names are really important

SnorlaX

The containers/barrels that Claudia saw in the cave had the symbol for radiation on them. That was radioactive material the plant is storing there which my guess should not be since it needs to be in a facility where it cannot affect the environment. There are family tree pics on reddit that just pertain to each episode. If you are interested I can upload after each episode so they are not spoilers. They basically just show who is who and do not contain spoiler info. You guys just said you saw that episode by episode guide great. Hannah is Yonas mother but she was married to his father who killed himself.

Lyn Hurst

Ha yeah they mention they gonna start using it from now on in the outro :D tbh i think this is the main one its needed for but will be handy until they feel more comfortable. Really the main thing to learn is knowing the four main families surnames and that's usually enough to get you through, you can piece together most everything else from context. Like in this ep when Tronte talks to Claudia at the power plant, if they had 'Nielson' memorized and knew that Ulrich's family are the Nielsons it would be obvious who it was from context when his surname is mentioned even if you didn't know or remember that his name is Tronte.

lemmy

https://dark.netflix.io/en before each episode it's spoiler free. I've been using it for my first watch. Helps alot

Drip Drop

YALL NEED TO WRITE NAMES DOWN LIKE A FAMILY TREE ITS GONNA GET 10X more confusing and you got everyones name wrong or have no idea whos who!

SnorlaX

Great chat at the start, I love that way you both thinking already! Unfortunately this was the tough episode I wouldn't worry, it's useful to know the family names which was why was trying to prod you to that site for a bit of pre ep revision, Tiedeman, Nielson, Khanwald, instantly anchors you to who they are or at least who they are related to. Also yes that was Jonas' mother. :) I think we all struggled with this ep on first watch. The inspector was called 'Tiedeman' and had the same name as the woman who runs the power plant and Regina. It'll get easier over the next episodes as you see them more am sure :) The crazy music in the cave was because she found a huge stash of some strange barrels of something from the power plant hidden inside the caves. :D they clearly not supposed to be there.

lemmy

Maybe a bit late but still interesting: One thing about the candy bar "Raider", it's the candy bar Twix by Mars. It had a different name in some countries like Germany. In 1991, the Raider brand name was retired and rebranded as Twix in all markets to unify its global branding strategy. In Germany and other European countries, this change was accompanied by a memorable advertising campaign featuring the slogan: "Raider heißt jetzt Twix ... sonst ändert sich nix!" Translation: "Raider is now called Twix ... nothing else changes!". This slogan remains a cult classic in Germany to this day. For many Germans, "Raider" became a symbol of the past, evoking memories of the 70s and 80s before the globalized Twix branding took over.
