We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

The Haunting of Hill House Episode 9 Uncut Reaction

Comments

Mrs. Dudley said that to her because she did know; remember in episode 7 the monologue Mr. Dudley gave about hearing their dead daughter’s cry and them not staying at the house after dark? They both know about what hill house does to people that stay there. She said that so olivia could get out before the house got to her before it’s too late but unfortunately it was too late. Poppy’s son was the boy in the wheelchair from episode 6 — who was banging on the walls. She killed her own children and manipulated Liv into thinking that “waking” Luke and Nelly up is a way to keep them safe from the dangers of the world. but Poppy’s way of waking them up is actually killing them. Hugh wasn’t the most attentive husband but he’s just like Steve in the sense of thinking it was just Liv being stressed about the house etc. The “that’s not mommy” was not literal in the sense of it not being her — but more so of it not being who she actually was.Because in that moment she was being manipulated by Poppy into thinking that killing her kids was a way to keep them safe (Nell from ending up on the silver table and Luke from dying from an overdose.) So it was her but it wasn’t her at the same time. Liv and Nell were the most sensitive which is why it was so easy for the house to manipulate them — it made Hugh think his wife was just stressed and it had everyone think that Nell was being crazy as well. The ending was a flashback to when they first moved in. The writer, Mike Flannigan, did a great job at tricking the audience into thinking Abigail was a ghost because Luke was the only one to interact with her. But after Mrs. Dudley mentions homeschooling her daughter to keep her safe and then realizing that she wore the same dress in that scene as abigail does, the realization hits quick that Liv really did kill their child.

The final pieces of the puzzle are almost in place. Poppy - she was insane, and still is. She is the face that appeared behind Nell (in bed) in the first episode. She saw new children that she could "wake up" like she did to her own children. Poppy never blinks, like young Max said about his grandmother in the early episodes. The guy working on the clock is the house controlling time. Yep, Liv is in that same motel room where Hugh left the kids and where Nell was staying. It's Abigale's grandmother, Mr. Dudley's mom, who takes her hand.

Michael Instone

its literally not, hence why it was kept up, thank you for your concen where it wasn't needed though! you're doing a great job!

A whole essay to try to justify the fact that it is indeed a leading comment if not outright spoiler

Gummybear

“Food for thought” is indeed a spoiler

Gummybear

Unfortunately you did.

Hira Memon

It's literally not, it is a fact that there is one more episode of the entire show left to watch - ergo, the finale reaction will be exciting considering S&P are telling you THEMSELVES they're looking forward to answers. It comes across rather random to call the above comment a spoiler. To break it down, I told them in the shortest and nicest comment possible that I was surprised that S&P haven't come to a conclusion about a character they've seen/heard of CONTINUOUSLY throughout these 9 episodes. Which, as a viewer of the show, you would know this has not been concluded as of episode 9 (and if you don't know this by now, I highly suggest you start watching the show, I really don't know what to tell you). And the "surprise" I mention feeling from that refers to the fact that they are often very good with their theories (particularly P) in all shows, this is not HOHH specific either, just a fact you would know as a viewer of the channel, assuming you've been here a while - if not, no stress. So I suppose I also suggest you view more of their reactions if you want to confirm this yourself. Or read, I have never left a single spoiler on any of their content, and it certainly didn't begin with HOHH episode 9 out of all the freaking things lol, hence why it is still here for you to... read! Have a good one anyway, enjoy the finale! :)

In retrospect, I never really focussed so much on the fact that the house or the evil inside it allows a form of seeing the future and timey wimey aspect. But that’s what makes this horror movie unique. The evil and horror of the house is so strong that it is able to in some sense see the future but also ensure the future that it sees. It technically was truthful in terms of showing Olivia what would happen to the twins, but dishonest that it was actually setting in motion what would happen to them. It’s like the second they stepped into the house, it was at least too late for the mum and nell. They were as good as dead. Obviously we don’t know about Luke with one episode to go. The house is that evil and powerful it was able to see the future and create it in a sense. And whether Abigail is real or not, the mother’s last moments on earth was her thinking she was saving her children, being assaulted by her husband, watching him take her children away and then thinking she killed a “child”, and just wanting to free herself from this torture and pain. It’s fucking horrendous way to die

So according to other comments, this is kinda spoiler

I have never seen reactors get this invested in the Hill family – I believe it’s safe to stay without spoiling that feel free to continue to ponder it, but you don’t necessarily need to know what happened to the Hill to understand and appreciate what is happening to the family we are following

Simone Cherie

Spoilers jeez.....that is explained in the next episode so dont ruin the impact

Ari_iya_kia

Ammaar Ahmed

SPOILERS this is revealed for sure only in the last ep. hopefully they already saw it.

Michel Ferreira

Yes, I realized that later.

Lyn Hurst

I think he means the house is most dangerous to steve because at least nell and luke were aware that they were seeing ghosts and steve perceived them as real so he’s more vulnerable to falling into their traps instead of being scared and running away

Steven

What?! I truly did not spoil anything. I’m sorry you feel like I did, but the fact is that I did not. I could rattle off a list of reasons proving that I didn’t, but I’m so perplexed by your accusation that I’m afraid of saying anything at this point. Suffice it to say, if you believe I spoiled something for you, then you missed some (4, by my count) major events in this episode. While I understand that it can be upsetting to feel like you’ve been spoiled, if I’m alluding to things that happened already….then it’s NOT a spoiler. Yet despite the fact that the truth about Abigail has already been made clear, I still chose to word my comment in a way that was intentionally vague and simply a nudge, because I was being respectful. Again, I apologize for accidentally spoiling something for you, but I promise you, that is not actually what I did. We will simply have to agree to disagree and I hope you have a wonderful day! 🤍🤍

Kimberly Moeller

This episode did not confirm anything. If it gets explained in the next episode, then why even mention it today? Luke is the only person who has seen Abigail and nobody believed him. It's common sense to think she's a ghost. I did have a theory, but you spoiled it for me already. Thanks!

imperial

Fair enough. It’s been years since I read Flanagan’s essay about the Hills, so I may be misremembering, but I seem to remember him confirming that she had. It’s not a hill I would die on, though (pun not originally intended, but now that I see it, I’m leaving it😂). Either way is entirely plausible, you’re right.

Kimberly Moeller

I spoiled nothing, and I even said that I knew why they thought that, but was giving them food for thought. This is the episode that reveals the truth about Abigail, so there is no spoiler. I was trying to nudge them into realizing what had already been shown.

Kimberly Moeller

"why did you assume no one could see Abigail?" Answer: Because for 9 episodes we've been led to believe that Abby is a ghost that only Luke can see! Where have you been? Thanks for the spoiler though.

imperial

I feel like Olivia's migraines (at least from the point that they start again in the house and her "colour storms" go monochrome) are her premonition of her death. It looks like she hits the floor head-first. 😔

Kate

I recently learned what they do to make the lidded eyes look normal...even creepier than the mouth. Not to morticians, of course: respect to them for dealing with all that for the rest of us.

Kate

I've seen a lot of debate about whether Poppy killed her children or not. It was back in the day where medicine wasn't as advanced so sickness took many people. I personally see merits to both sides. One being that sickness took both of her children causing Poppy to fully snap mentally and kill herself only to find her children both "awake." The other being that she, being mentally unstable to begin with caused her to kill her children while they were sick. With Clara calling both Poppy and William literally insane, I tend to lean more on the side of her killing her children. Maybe she had seen other ghosts in the house and her mind thought killing them was best to wake them up.

Mike

There are big hints about Abigail in this episode =)

SuddenImpulse

This is definitely a penultimate episode. It starts to answer questions, but then brings up more. This is my first watch and the only one who confuses me at this point is Abigail.

Lyn Hurst

arguably the best episode imo

JonSnow21

As a parent Hugh´s priority was to get the kids to safety. Imaging if Olivia tries to still "wake them" in the car. He just saw his wife tried to kill the twins. she couldn't be trusted.

Elvira Heredia

I really thought you'd figure out Abigail by now hahaha (jokes) but that will make the finale all the better!

A.D

Poppy was married to William. They’re the ones who met in an insane asylum. Hazel is William’s mother. Poppy DID kill her children. She was insane. Literally. And Abigail…. Why did you assume no one could see her? (I know why….I’m just giving food for thought). And I love that you are so detail oriented, but something to remember is that the house is haunted….and that’s the answer to some of your questions. The clock man was there because the house is full of ghosts. The finale answers a lot of questions, but some of the answers are simply just….the house is full of ghosts. I just want to make sure you aren’t disappointed. It’s such a moving, beautiful finale

Kimberly Moeller

sowing the mouth shut is common when preparing for a funeral

Rich Plumb

Ayyy, early for this one, and your answers and quest is to the end

Liam Usery

wow what timing, i just came to check if this was up yet! so excited for this one
